The regulations regarding what can be brought back duty-free are set by Canada Border Services Agency, and info may be found in their brochure, "Moving Back to Canada," at their website (I cannot post links-- :'() Hope that helps!

You have to have made 10 posts before they allow links. It keeps the spam bots from posting initially.

Thanks! I figured it was something like that. And thanks for posting the link. I found the brochure very informative, although the prospect of inventorying all our "stuff" is very daunting! :o

One of the posts on the first page of this thread has a link (in the FAQs) to a post I had written with some additional details on the B4 and B4A forms you need to fill out to import goods duty and tax free when you land or as a returning Canadian.

There are some restrictions for Canadians who are returning, like the fact that they need to prove they lived outside of Canada for at least a year and their allowances vary a bit based on length of stay outside Canada. I go into some of this in more detail in that post and link to the CBSA pages on the regulations too.

Hey Proco, when you contacted CPP-O they told you that they're working on cases recieved at the endo of September (am I correct in interpreting what you have written)?

They said they were working on correspondence from the end of September. I'm under the assumption this means requested documents and such. I don't think they meant new applications filed at that time but I could be wrong.

What the heck am I to do with this??

I'm on ECAS https://services3.cic.gc.ca/ecas/viewcasestatus.do?app=ecas

ECAS shows me this after they find my hubby based on his UCI (Sponosor)

If you want to see the details of an application, click on the underlined status.

(box) Please remove the ability for me or anyone else to view the status of my application and address information on this Web site.

Note: Once you withdraw your consent, your application status and address information will no longer be available on the Internet. Learn about other ways of receiving information about the processing and status of your application and updating your address information by contacting us.

This entire thing starting with "Please remove..." is outlined. "Submit" is under the outlined box and below that is "Log Out".

When I click "contacting us" it just takes me back to the beginning to enter his UCI#. ARRGH!!

Leave that box alone, don't touch it lol. If you want to check the status, check what is underlined :) but not NOT check that box and hit submit. It will then not allow you to sign in again.

This seems to indicate they've added your UCI to the system, but haven't added any applications yet. It will show up (eventually).

So I redid my fingerprints...let me just say that getting fingerprints done in Buffalo, NY is a JOKE! That said, I'm hoping to have these sent off by this weekend. Just need to find a stiff piece of cardboard to try and ensure the fingerprint card doesn't get bent.

Try a "disk mailer" from the post office or an office supply store ( even one of the private post places should have one). They're rigid, designed to protect a CD, and should be the right size for your fingerprint card. Good luck!

What is underlined is the "contact us" which takes me right back to the beginning. ARGH. So, I think Computergeek may be right. We're in the system but the application isn't. YET...and happy waiting to us! :P

Color me silly. Just checked again. The two underlined "received" buttons are there for the Sponsorship and PR applications. HALLELUIAH! But nothing more shows up under Sponsorship. Under mine-the PR App, it says they rec'd it on Sept 24. :P

I really don't understand e-CAS.

I check periodically to see if the status really does ever go to "complete". Today, it would seem my application is back to "in process". LOL

I suspect, but am not certain, that this indicates Sydney is working on the PR card (it's been 2.5 weeks after all). My conclusion: consulting e-cas is a bit like consulting the magic 8 ball.

That makes sense, your application wouldn't be fully completed until the PR card is issued...
