Yeah, Credit Karma is good but that does not prevent your identity from being stolen. Identity thief's often try to take a online loan and you hope that the inquiry on your credit get to credit karma instantaneously and you are able to get through the company and convince them that it was not you. Not to mention cases where you are on vacation, sick etc. A freeze significantly reduces (don't think it eliminates) your chance of identity theft.
You can't edit EE profile after getting ITA, but that's not a problem. You can edit your PR application any time until you submit it.
