Urgent - renew passport after medical - Super visa

Hi Folks,

I am searching around for answer but not finding one. I had applied for my mother's super visa in October 2015. Her passport is expiring in May 2017 and I was not aware that visa only is issued upto passport validity (silly me). She is just done with the medicals this week. Now I was thinking of asking her to renew her passport before the passport request comes. Following questions I have

- Is it a good idea to renew passport at this stage ? would it have any negative impact on the application ?
- I applied online and now the application is locked and I don't see a place to upload the new documents, nor do I see a way to contact visa officer. How would we notify of this change to visa officer and send the new document once we had them ?

Hi,

The validity of a visa depends on the assessment made by the visa officer..... and may/may not be until the passport validity.

If you renew her passport before you get a passport request then you must inform CIC about this. You must send a Case Specific Enquiry to the visa office that's processing your mom's application

We receive all notifications from portal so not sure who is the visa officer.
But nice tip about the case specific enquiry form. This seems like the method to communicate back. Thanks

As your mom's passport is expiring in May 2017, you may want to first check with the passport authorities in your mom's home country if they will allow a passport renewal so far in advance. Else you could be in a situation where you get a passport request from CIC for super visa stamping.... but you have applied for passport renewal

That I have checked. Passport can be renewed and if we apply for urgent service, we can have it in 4-5 days.
But the point you mentioned is the one that was bothering me. So if we get the passport request meanwhile and send the new passport, do you think it would be a problem ? I was thinking of sending the CSI after we get the passport back, so I can provide the copy of it. Do you think we should send it now that we have passport renewal in progress ?

You can renew her passport now by applying for urgent service before she gets a passport request letter. Like I've mentioned earlier, you must inform the visa office of any changes such as a new passport by sending the CSE

Were you able to renew your mom's passport? Did it have any impact in visa application, positive or negative?

Hi,

Generally most of the countries allows passport renewals within 6 months-1 yr before the expiry date. Will you be able to renew it now, with more than 1.5 yrs of validity?
