Sounds great until you spend all the time it takes for that video to get down to the details. Then we are told when does visa free not really mean visa free. The program applies only to those who have held a Canadian visa in the past 10 years or who hold a U.S. Visa.
Sorry it doesn't apply to you, but this is a big deal - with potential benefits to you and to lots of others, specifically that staff will now have time to devote to looking at files in a bit more detail / devote resources to things that need human intervention (including family sponsorship).

I'm by no means immersed in the immigration world but this has been a no-brainer for years, both giving longer tenor visas to people that have already had visas (and respected the terms thereof), and repeat visas to repeat customers.

I mean there's a lot that IRCC screws up but changing their procedures to divert staff time from no-brainer cases has to be applauded.

And I hope it will turn out to benefit you. I wouldn't apply right away but once this new TRV-for-spouses-with-apps program stabilizes and we see some results, I'd think you might consider having your spouse apply again anyway.

So does this mean for those who have spouse sponsorship application or those who are just preparing to submit one but hold/has a previous trv in the last 10 years or has a US tourist visa has no need to apply for trv anymore? Do they just apply online for ETA for $7 and off they go to Canada?

Yes. Subject to official launch dates and the systems being live, which 8 understand they are.

Note, i suppose it's hypothetically possible the eta could be denied (and likely would be if eg criminality or other adverse hits come up), but like regular etas that should be quite rare.

Wow lucky for them. In just minutes up to 72 hours they can have their eta’s and go to Canada..

I think both you and @canuck78 have raised legitimate concerns.

I would be surprised to see many TRVs approved for very recent TRV applicants. Maybe some hope for those that are well along the road, eg., AOR and SA received, police clearances received, medical exam done, etc.

Another concern for those of us PR applicants who see no hope for TRV is that all those rushing to procure TRVs will clog up the system, what with the promised 30-day turnaround, etc. That can only mean that PR applications will be put on the back burner while the TRVs take priority. There is clearly more workload now for IRCC and something has to give. I suspect that the ordinary PR applicant will be the sacrificial lamb. Probably just sour grapes on my part.
IRCC should have process the PR applications faster instead of inteodusing the new TRV measures

There are a few threads on this topic of late. Our application has the same not applicable indication. The best advice, in my view, is don't worry about it; it's not of great significance, they will still do a background check. One member recently commented about his wife's background and eligibility checks still showing either not started or in progress (I don't recall which), but she had got her PR visa and had landed in Canada already.

They started processing your background check. Get GCMS notes to be sure.

All that you say makes a certain amount of sense, but it strikes me that, while there might now be some economy of resources, giving staff more time to devote to other files, I see as countervailing the workload increase very likely (I would say a certainty) flowing from the new TRV-for-spouses-with-apps program.

It's likely that a high percentage - if not all - of those with outland applications in the works will apply for TRV once AOR is received. And there is something of a promise for a 30-day turnaround. So it seems that a very substantial amount of resources will be assigned to cope with the work created by the new program. If people complain about the current expected processing time of 15 months for outland to start creeping up again, the IRCC's response will be "So what? You can apply for TRV." That's fine for the majority who can risk it. For the folks like us, who have shot their bolt already, we are as nervous as a long-tailed cat in a roomful of rocking chairs about the damage done to my wife's PR application by reason of her most recent failed TRV application of March 2023. It was her third since January 2020. A fourth would be almost a sure kiss of death, if we are not dead already and just don't know it.

Im pretty sure trv application has no bearing with spousal application. It’s two different application. Previously you have to show proof of home ties to come back home once trv is approved. In spousal application they are looking at the genuineness of the relationship. You can even apply trv to attend a wedding or just to visit a friend. Of course both of them needs to pass the background check.

One might think that, but I have read here on more than one occasion, including from such authoritative voices as @scylla (if I recall correctly), that, when making a PR application, you really don't want more than 2 TRV denials on your record.

I don’t know if this is promoting, admin just removed if not allowed.

But I joined this FB group last month it’s called Canada Spousal Sponsorship 2019-2023.

In this group a lot of applicant already applied trv by now. And there is already a lot of people in the same situation as you are right now Kaibigan. Your situation is not unique by any means. Just browse it and you will find their posts. But still they applied since this is a new policy being implemented by IRCC. It was signed months ago and was recently announced by the minister.

If you know me a little Kaibigan, I would like to help you as much as you help me before and after I got married.

Thank you very much for that info and advice comarxx. I'll take a look at the FB group you mention.

And yes, I recall some of our past discussions and glad you found them helpful. I appreciate your willingness to reciprocate.

For PR applications having many TRV denials aren’t really an issue except in perhaps cases where there are concerns about whether the relationship is genuine. If there has been a long history of applying for TRVs even before the relationship started there could be concerns that the person is desperate to come to Canada.
