Just so you know a Visitor Record looks like, it says "Visitor Record" at the top and spells out all the conditions and terms of your stay, it also specifies an expiration date.

Here is a sanitized scan of a Visitor record.

Thanks for the info.

That visitor record is exactly what I got! I called the border yesterday and was basically told that from now on it was up to the guard whether or not I could re enter. Sigh.....

Actually it is always up to the IO whether you get in, don't be sad about it.

It is ALWAYS up to the border agent whether to let you into Canada, unless you are a permanent resident or Canadian citizen. If you are not from a visa-exempt country there may be circumstances in which a visa authorizes entry but that can also be over-ridden if the border agent suspects any illegal activity such as over-staying your permitted period or working without a permit (or anything else illegal).

I had the same procedure the first time I came to Canada (I came from Holland) I was so not prepaired and was sweating like crazy, I thought they thought I was a criminal! in the end when I was done they guy didn't even say "okay you can go on" ...he just gave me back my passport and I asked him "okay what now"? he waved his hand to the door and mumbled "that way"

The second time I had the same procedure.. this time I had a woman who asked all the questions.. she was okay and kinda friendly.. and I was MEGA prepaired (I had all my info they needed)

The third time I was prepaired too, but suprisingly I just could walk on... I thought "did I missed a turn"?

I hear all of your stories and I feel very lucky. The first time I came, the IO was very friendly, but I was scared to death and showing him all papers I had to prove I`m going to leave in time. The second time I was going to the border with my husband/ at that time fiance, to get my work permit issued. It was a huge snowstorm all the way there, when we reached the border, couldn`t see a thing, so we went straight to the US side accidentally- the US border officers were running after us. They were very friendly after we appologized and explained why we were there. When we went back to the Canadian side, the IO pulled my husband aside and started to yell at him that what the hell he was thinking...I was freaking out, seeing my chances for the WP dropping to zero. Then to my suprise, she went back to the other side of the desk and calmly went trough my case like a totally different person, issued my permit in 5 minutes. What I learnt you just never know, it all depends on the IO you get.
