I am here as a visitor, not a visitor visa though, just a stamped passport.

I didnt do RCMP check and didnt get asked for one.

I assume its because as a visitor you can come for upto 6 months and they require RCMP check if you have lived somewhere for over 6 months.

Hi

has anyone who has lived in Canada on a visitors visa not had to do an RCMP check? I have not had one done and now i am getting worried.

No need to get a police check done in Canada. They can do it without asking :)

Not technically true..... I was in Canada for 18 months before my PR and I was not asked for an RCMP check. The only reason you will get a request for an RCMP check is if in the normal background checks they do, someone with a simlar name and date of birth pops up, so they have to get your fingerprints to make sure it is not you.

I too was worried about this (others in our batch have had theirs requested) as I was here for 18 months but it's good to know you haven't had a request either.

So many possible things to worry about, think I'd better stop reading in to things. It WILL be fine!

Oh and pinklady, I believe British embassies can provide temporary British passports if you need them.

FWIW The same applies if you do a police check before becoming a volunteer.

Unfortunately there is no way to predict if you will need an RCMP check or not, it's just luck of the draw if you share a name and birth date with someone who has been a bit of a scally wagg!!! I'm not even sure if you are allowed to request an RCMP check unless you get a request from CIC?

The reason i was worried about the RCMP check is that i came to Canada for a year in 2008 on a working holiday visa, then i came back to Canada a year ago as a visitor, so i have been in Canada nearly 2 years now. But i seems from other peoples experience that i should just wait and see if they ask for it. Fingers crossed.

Waiting is a stressful business, especially when you can't work!

Renovate, or find an activity :)

I used..

re-london-im-enquiry @ international.gc.ca

I just replied to the PPR email, i think thats what MandiF did.
d-tilley, which email address did you use?

I would use the web form here
https://dmp-portal.cic.gc.ca/cicemail/intro-eng.aspx?mission=london
to email them. allows you to input your name, nationality, DoB, file number etc.

I sent one today pleading my case. I'll be there Thursday afternoon if I don't get a response! I wish I had done the 2 week drop and collect service. I even found a visa courier service who was willing to do it for GBP 60 but decided not to use them thinking 5 weeks would be enough. that would have been a whole lot cheaper than the GBP 600 for the return airfare!!!

Hi everyone,

I have arrived in Canada today as a visitor. I will be here and waiting for my letter or email and then send my passport from canada to Uk and hopefully get everything sorted while in UK.

Regards

Naz
