Thanks so much for the info....

I'm in the UK at the moment. So if you have it on good authority that there are big back logs at the mo; then perhaps it would be worth my while to make a whistlestop trip to Canada.

Would there be anything stopping me going over to Canada for 7 days and getting a RCMP check while I was over there?
I think you can submit your fingerprints digitally from the UK if you can find a company who do it... try google I'm sure there will be someone who can do it. My father in law if is a cop in Ontario and he said normal ink and paper checks are currently taking about 5 months, and there are loads of media reports over here about the RCMP backlog, so I would look to take the digital route if at all possible.

Sorry I just looked at the RCMP website and you cannot submit digital fingerprints from outside of Canada. So I guess it depends on how quickly you want to land in Canada.

Hey All! Just a quick poll-type question. How long did it take you to have your passport returned when you submitted it to the London office? Ours got to the London office on the 21st of March and we are still waiting for it to be returned. Just wanted some sort of time line to go by.

Cheers!
London received my passport on March 4th.... I am in canada and still waiting...... This friday it'll be 5 weeks in London.
Maybe today i'll get it back..? Hope so!!
Good luck

Firstly Samba are you in Canada? If you are I strongly advise that you go to an organisation such as the Commissionaires who can do your finger prints digitally... this way you should have your results back in a few days, and it only costs about $40. If you do it the old ink and paper way it can take up to 6 months for the RCMP to process it, and they currently have a huge backlog.

The Commissionaires website: w w w . commissionaires . ca/
Thank you very much for this link. Although I am in the UK, I have just emailed them and they have told me that they can convert paper finger prints to digital, and they hope to get the results back in 3-4 days. :)

I need to send two pieces of 'Notarized ID'? - I'm assuming that this is like our 'Certified ID' but does anyone know if this can be done by a Teacher, Civil Servant, Policeman etc or does it have to be done by a Lawyer.

Thanks again for all the advice.

Samba, did they tell you they would send a letter with instructions? They rang us about a month ago to say my partner would need to supply fingerprints for an RCMP check. They also said they would send us a letter with the instructions...which to date they have not done. I have done some searches on other forums and someone received a copy of this letter where it specifically said that the fingerprints had to be taken by a police department and not another company. I also looked into getting over to Canada and getting digital fingerprints taken and found that local police stations in Canada require ID to prove you live there so it didn't sound like they would allow someone from outside the country to have it done that way. I have just written to CIC London for the second time to ask them to please "resend" the letter as we are really at a loss of what to do. I have also heard that others have had this done and it hasn't taken very long. Can I ask you what the email said specifically as we don't even have that? Our timeline seems very similar to yours as we went into process on January 24th.

Hi Jen85, If you haven't done so already, have a look at the RCMP website... it gives you instructions on what they require and what you need to do..http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cr-cj/fing-empr2-eng.htm . Although I didn't need fingerprints for an RCMP check, I needed them for an FBI and a AFP check. I had trouble getting them done at my local police office, as it's not classed as a standard procedure, so I booked an appointment with the Metpolice in London and got my prints done there. They provide a service specifically for visa applications, so you are certain to get a clear set of prints done. http://www.met.police.uk/scd/specialist_units/fingerprint_services.htm. They do charge, but I think it's worth paying the price knowing they will do it correctly.

Hope this helps

MDSB :)

Hi Jen,

My email was very brief from the London office...

"Please be advised that, as up-to-date police certificates are required from all countries where an applicant has resided for 6 months or more, it will be necessary for you to obtain a Canadian police certificate (RCMP Certified Criminal Record Check), verified by a fingerprint check.

Please refer to www . rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cr-cj/fing-empr2-eng.htm for further information and full instructions."

I have an appointment with the Police Tomorrow to get my fingerprints taken. The Police have told me that they have the C216 form. Which is the specific form for Canada RCMP checks. Thanks to d-tilley, I have contacted the commissionaires company, and they have told me that once they have the completed C216 form (done by the UK police); they can digitize the prints and all being well they get back the RCMP check in two weeks rather than the 6 months if you sent off the paper based directly to the RCMP. They said it would cost 225 CDN$; but I figure that is worth it.

I have an email address of a woman who has told me about the digitizing of the finger prints and she also sent me some info. Send me a private msg with your email and I can forward them on if that would help.

Samba and MDSB. Thank you for the information and I will send a message to you shortly Samba with our email address. I have looked at the RCMP website. Our situation is slightly different. CIC said they wanted his fingerprints done as there is someone with the same name and DOB who applied for immigration to Canada in 1982. All they are doing is trying to see if my partner is the same person or not (which he isn't). In this circumstance, I am under the impression...although not sure...that they want the fingerprints sent to them directly and not to the RCMP. This is what we are unsure of and were waiting for the letter from immigration to explain what we are supposed to do. I have heard of similar cases such as this where the matter was resolved within a week or two after sending the prints to CIC but since we have nothing in writing from them, we don't know what they want us to do. Samba I will take the information you have regarding getting the fingerprints digitized in case we need it.
Thanks for the input from both of you. :)

Sorry Jen! - I've had an inbox clear out; so should be able to receive it now.

Wow - what a crazy situation. How unlucky.

I guess it's a difficult one waiting for that letter! These High Commissions don't seem to be the most enthusiastic pen pals!

Plus, when you eventually get the letter, you just know it's just going to tell you to do the standard finger print procedure at police station and just send it to the CIC. But i guess you can't be sure till you get that letter, how frustrating.

Anyway fingers crossed.

Jen85...that is really unfortunate about your partner sharing the same name and dob with a previous applicant. At least now you know why there is a delay in your application...hopefully once they tell you what to do then things can get sorted quickly and you can get that ppt! Good luck!

Hey

I'm looking for a lil' advice. I am currently going through sponsorship with my common-law Canadian partner as an outland applicant (I am living in Canada). My partner was approved by Mississauga and the application was forwarded onto London.
Part of my application included a criminal record check from New Zealand, it still hasn't arrived in London and as a result I received a letter in the mail saying my entire application was on hold til it arrived. I also have 60 days to fix this (?!!?). The process for this form was odd... It gets sent to London separately from my application. I applied for it in January and it was mailed out by the NZ police at the end of the month. It is then mailed to Syndey, Aus and then forwarded to London. So my form is somewhere...
I have emailed Sydney but they can take up to 28 days to reply and London seems be based entirely off grid or something because they only communicate via snailmail.

Any suggestions welcome. Should write a letter to London and explain that it should arrive any time and not to cancel my file? And if it has arrived, how do I know? When i call the immigration hotline and try to check an application in process i get forwarded to an adviser but the line is always busy, so i figured i'd ask here while i still try.

Thanks

Naz
you need to renew 30 days before the date the visitors visa runs out whether it be a 6 month visa or a 9 month visa
