It sounds ok to me. I sent details of where we will be staying when we land, a copy of our flight confirmation and details of both our employment history and how we will support ourselves whilst looking for work.
Good luck !

Hey guys,

Just a couple of questions.....

I'm a Canadian (dual citizenship) and have been living in London for 5 years. My fellah and I have been together for almost 3.5 years and after months of trying to prove our relationship I think we're almost ready to file.

The only area I'm a it worried about is the "future" and my "intention" to re-establish myself in Vancouver. I've got a good job working for my Dad and he's had to get a lawyer to draw up an employment letter so that CIC will actually believe it. I've gt flights booked and am definitely making the move - is there anything else that I can do/send/provide to prove that I intend to live in Vancouver and establish my life there?

Also, is there anywhere that my boyfriend can/should put what he intends to do when (or should I say 'if') he gets residency? I can't see anything but want to make sure we're putting enough information to show that we want to set up our life and a family there and all that jazz....

Cheers guys - dish. :D
Really as long as you demonstrate you have thought about where you are going to live, how you are going ot support yourselves etc, that's the main thing, just explain all of that in your application. I put in our relationship development (I am the applicant) what i hope to do in Canada and my dreams for the future should my application be successfuly. Basically I just put about family life and being where my husband was born etc, starting a family and all. So really I think as long as it makes sense, put it where it fits, especially as you are not in Canada right now.

Thanks Mandi,

So you think it's ok for my boyfriend to put in his "relationship essay" what he hopes to do when he gets permanent residency?

It's just one little teeny tiny detail but I don't want it to mess up or slow down our application.

Also, we're going to file this week but we're also going travelling 2 months and then my boyfriend is going to apply for a 5-month visitor so that he can be with me when I start my new job.

Is your boyfriend British? If so, he doesn't have to apply for a visitor's visa. He is allowed to stay here for up to 6 months. They will just stamp his passport at the airport when he goes through Canadian customs. But make sure he has a return flight because he may get hassled at the airport if he only has a one-way ticket and possibly refused to board the flight. This is because they may think that your boyfriend will just disappear into Canada and work illegally. Although this hasn't happened to my hubby who is British it happened to my sister's boyfriend. So it's better safe than sorry. What we did to get around this was buy a one way ticket separately with Air Transat from Canada to the UK and we were able to cancel it (just make sure you get it well in advance to be eligible for a refund) basically as soon as he landed. We did this because we don't know when his permanent residency will come through and we are hoping it does before his 6 months is up. He's already been visiting for nearly two months now...hopefully we'll hear back soon....But as soon as it comes through my hubby is going to fly back to the UK straight away to submit his passport, etc. Assuming that he doesn't get called in for an interview.

Oh yeah, just one more thing. If your boyfriend is staying here for a long duration of time (i.e. more than a month or two) Canadian customs may question him and ask how he'll support himself. If so, he just needs to say that he is visiting his common law partner, that should be enough. No need to print off funds to prove that he has money in the bank.

Hey mmhughes - yep my boyfriend is British. Our plan is to get round-the-world tickets and do SE Asia for a month and then move to Vancouver. He'll have a return ticket and is only asking for 5 months, not 6 as he's got to come back to England for a huge event. Am hoping we won't have any problems and can't see why we would.

Also - does anybody know if they check facebook? I was going to print off a few pages with our status changing to "in a relationship" and all that gooey stuff but I wasn't sure if they actually went on and checked as there's sooooo much more stuff on there and it's much easier to view/read and shows dates that photo albums were set up etc etc.

Here's hoping we file this week. I'm sooooo done with all of this. I'm sure they make it difficult to try and weed out the people who aren't serious!! :)

Hey dishy_max. Sounds fun! They'll automatically give him a stamp for six months no matter how long he plans to stay. And I wouldn't of thought that they take Facebook seriously regarding relationship status. Anyone can change their status to "in a relationship" or even "married". However, any messages that you guys send each other on Facebook, email and so on are worth printing out. Good luck! :)

Dishy we sent quite a few of our facebook messages as well as some between his mother and I and her posts on my wall but nothing of the relationship status. As well I don't think they could go on my mine and check even if they wanted too :)

Thanks guys.

I'm pretty sure I should just send it in as is but I keep trying to find more things to prove that we're in a relationship. Our lawyers have said to be careful about sending off too much but I'd rather send off too much than not enough!

Happy New Year Everyone!!

Random question. Has anyone from the UK Group ever heard of a change in ECAS from In Process to Pending Review? I read about this in one of the other groups and am a bit confused as I thought the sequence was In Progress to Decision Made. I am still sitting In Progress but just curious if anyone knows much about it. Also, should I be worried as there are no notes in my ECAS in regards to Medicals Received (not sure if all embassies note this) as it has been about 7 weeks now that I have been In Progress. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Best Wishes for 2011 to all!!

I'm not sure about pending review. I've never heard of anyones Ecas changing to that but I've seen people get email replies when they inquire about the status of their application. As for the meds recieved sometimes it shows up sometimes it doesn't until the end. For example I recieved a letter requesting something and it told me meds recieved but Ecas never changed. Still IN Process here.

I have a little query regarding AOR. I received the letter of sponsorship approval dated November 17th but I still haven't heard whether or not the London office received our PR application. As I understand that this takes time I am a bit worried because other applications of similar time lines to the same office obtained an AOR date that I am assuming was posted on ECAS or emailed to the applicant. Just wondering if I should start worrying that my application was lost and begin phoning around.

Thanks so much and Happy New Year :)

mmhughes I got my sponsorship approval on 19 November and still not heard anything at all. It seems that a lot of people on this timeline haven't had any response from London at all, so at least we're all in the same time of timeline.

Thanks MandiF. It wonder if the updates on Ecas are dependent on the officer looking at our files? That thing can be so obsessive ;)

MMHUGHES and MandiF - Rumour has it London doesn't send AOR letters at all. I am only going by what ECAS says. It would be nice for some consistency in all Embassies so this wouldn't be so confusing!

mmhughes, did your ECAS change yet?

i heard the AOR rumour too...i hope thats not true, because it can take up to 9 months, is everyone assuming its going to take that long? Just would be nice to hear that they have received it you know. I heard you can email them...has anyone done this?
