I'm happy you've reached that. :) I'm curious.. when the PPR happens, what exactly does that mean? That he's a PR now? I'm new to every bit of this and will be sending off my application in May of this year.
IT means that he gets his COPR (Confirmation of Permanent Residence) paper and he can land. Once landed he's a PR.

Does anyone know if there is a dropbox at the Buffalo visa office? Do I need to line up in the morning in order to drop off a letter there?

After checking the quarterly update for spouse pr processing times Buffalo has no change - still at 11 month average. I don't know why some people were informed by their MPs that processing times had gone up. This was not reflected in the quarterly update, so we're still better off with our average 11-month time.

Why don't you send it by mail? It's easier.

I see some people saying less than 11 months. So I'm curious.. those who've gone through it recently... what was your timeline like?
I'm going to apply extension of stay March, and for Common Law May. What's the 'guesstimate' of what I'm looking at?

Hi Quince, I only want postage tracking to make sure it's delivered but am not racing with time. Canada Post does tracking with 2-3 days express delivery, while Fedex does overnight but charges $40+. And I'm going to Buffalo later this week anyway, I figured out I can be the courier myself, plus guarantee delivery. :)

Ah, you probably called the CIC Call Centre, which is of no help whatsoever when the file moves to the visa office (and sometimes before then too  :-X :p).

Thanks ddobro2! We had to call once but it must have been Mississauga.

I'm assuming this is referring to the immigration photos. What was wrong with them?

They said there were problems with the photos and that they had sent us a letter on June 7.
Ah see, the guides and webpages don't do a good job of explaining the importance of the RPRF fee so it wasn't you. There is one guide that has sort of a flow chart of the process and it notes that the RPRF fee would be requested toward the end (IF 'x' happened, after 'y' happened, and before 'z' happened, or whatevers). Assuming it had not already been paid upon filing, of course. What it doesn't do at all is explain the importance of paying the RPRF fee along with the other fees at the beginning to avoid delays, and the length of those delays (and the importance of sending receipts after paying......), which people don't always think about.

On October 17 we got a letter requesting the Right of Permanent Residence Fee (something we had somehow overlooked - not sure how we did that since we had read that application SO MANY times!). We paid online that very day, and faxed the receipt to Buffalo and Mississauga the next day. Haven't heard anything since then.

Thank you all for the congrats! It's so nice to have good news to share - all of a sudden 9 months doesn't seem so long:) I hope you all get in under the 11 month wire too. I was surprised to read that you can send photocopies of the passport, rather than the actual, which sounds safer. Did you do that ddobro? any one? and really...more pictures? I feel Ontario could post my husband's pics all over the province by virtue of how many we've already sent:) Excited and nervous about this big change in our lives actually going to happen now. We been living in the US since 1982 (I'm a resident alien down here). I've appreciated everyone's answers to questions, support and just reading this forum during this waiting game. I'm sure I'll be back in a week or two reading info on landings! But getting pics done tomorrow and hopefully mailing the copies up Friday. Funny how it has gone from an "idea" to an actual real event by virtue of one email!

Not sure if it's a good news or bad news... just received an email an hour ago, my application is now transferred to New York. And it says, "Do not request the status of your file within ninety (90) days of the date of this letter."

Hi everyone! I know this can probably be quite variable, but for those who have gotten pprs recently, how long did it take from your ecas changing to "in process" to the actual ppr request? I ask because my husband has to give at least 1 month notice to leave his job and I don't want to have to wait another month AFTER we recieve the COPR for him to land, so I want to anticipate it by having him give notice soon after his file goes "in process". Thoughts?

Just a reminder, when the PPR request is sent he just has to land to become a PR. He does NOT have to move right away. You can take your time (up to 3 years in fact but I wouldn't suggest it!) to close up shop in your current location and move to Canada.
