I actually sent the passport itself in. I'm sure someone here has sent in photocopies since the policy change. It does need to be of all the pages in the passport though.

Congrats again - I can relate to all your emotions! Just let it sink in :D

Thank you all for the congrats! It's so nice to have good news to share - all of a sudden 9 months doesn't seem so long:) I hope you all get in under the 11 month wire too. I was surprised to read that you can send photocopies of the passport, rather than the actual, which sounds safer. Did you do that ddobro? any one? and really...more pictures? I feel Ontario could post my husband's pics all over the province by virtue of how many we've already sent:) Excited and nervous about this big change in our lives actually going to happen now. We been living in the US since 1982 (I'm a resident alien down here). I've appreciated everyone's answers to questions, support and just reading this forum during this waiting game. I'm sure I'll be back in a week or two reading info on landings! But getting pics done tomorrow and hopefully mailing the copies up Friday. Funny how it has gone from an "idea" to an actual real event by virtue of one email!

Argh... I'm getting so frustrated. This nonsense has been going on too long - I just want my husband to get his PR already! I've read about others getting PPR soon after they pay the RPRF and here we are waiting since October. We've been going back and forth with CIC since May.

I know this has been discussed many times over, but I always seem to be reading different things. My husband is on a work permit (till August... earning peanuts), so he went to Canada Border Services to tell them about his car. After that he got Ontario plates, etc. When he gets PR he has to claim the car at the US border, correct? And what is with this 72 hour thing? Does he have to stay in the States for 72 hours? I don't get it. He has a lien on the car as well. Can someone direct me to a site with all this information? My head is spinning with all the posts I have read on this subject and I'm very confused.

P.S. Do you have to have a certain number of posts to have an avatar and be able to post your timeline underneath it?

Send a copy to them by mail and fax them another copy. Make sure your visa file number is on the cover pages. Then confirm they received it.

Sorry to hear you're frustrated. I disagree, however, that others have gotten PPR "soon after" they paid the RPRF. Unless "soon after" can be something like a month. I've seen people having to wait 1-2 months after they sent in their receipt for the RPRF to both offices and I know that you've been waiting more than that but I think we should keep in mind the three holidays we had since October. Maybe that's had something to do with delaying the PPR. I would give it to mid-February and then contact my MP.

Good news. And re: your PM, I'll update you once I have a chance to log in to the other account.

Not sure if it's a good news or bad news... just received an email an hour ago, my application is now transferred to New York. And it says, "Do not request the status of your file within ninety (90) days of the date of this letter."

Hey AllisonVSC. Where did you found out about the 'up to 3 years' part?
AllisonVSC said:
Just a reminder, when the PPR request is sent he just has to land to become a PR. He does NOT have to move right away. You can take your time (up to 3 years in fact but I wouldn't suggest it!) to close up shop in your current location and move to Canada.

That's the residency obligation for PRs. You must live in Canada 2 of the first 5 years you are a PR and then it's 2 in a rolling 5 year period after that. So, theoretically you can take up to 3 years to settle in Canada, but then you would have to stay without leaving for 2 years in order satisfy the obligation.

you need to contact the US export office at your crossing...although be prepared to have to correspond through email...if you get really frustrated you can call the administration at that office and speak to them....you can contact RIV but that will only help you with the canadian side of it mostly....and you MUST do the us export...or when you try and cross the us border with that car afterwards they will fine you $5000.....They MUST have the lien info and the registration 72 hours before you try to export...
Is your car already insured in Ontario? if not...you will need to be prepared to pay the RIV inspection fee and a provincial inspection fee....and...a word of advice....be prepared for it to cost more than you expect...we had tons of bumps along the way...but our problem was mis-information and the fact that my husband wasn't settled in canada yet....

Good luck :)

Ah okay. Yeah, it's still so variable with CIC. Every visa office has its problems but I believe that ours is particularly 'FUBAR'. Have you ordered GCMS notes?

You're right, calling them might be the easier way. Yes, the car is insured in Ontario. Thanks for your help!

I totally thought that you meant you had 3 years to "fully settle" - that is, import all of your stuff. That's the one that I never saw a fixed date for (people just always said, "any time in the future" when asked about goods to follow). Yeah, I'm familiar with the PR residency obligations.

There is no timeline for importing goods, that is true. As long as they are listed when landing you can bring them anytime.
