DrDave, you might have a point here..maybe they dig into the arranged marriage scenario a lot..cos usually we have less time to get to know and get married..
But I would think it's understood that most marriages in India are arranged... Doesn't CIC take that into consideration! Unless they are delaying arranged marriage application on purpose to see if anything goes wrong after marriage!

You have paid them a lot, don worry. that is all which is needed for sponsorship.

agreed. Most of the marriages are arranged. and it would be very hard to see one which was arranged 2 years before, and even if it was the case it is very hard for ppl to just be in touch for 2 years before they get married not being physically together..unlike western tradition we wont see a lot of them having kids before marriage either.
If this change happens, arranged marriages will take a hit...and yes, they would like to see how the marriage is performing after 2 years..
this would be one of the dumbest rules they have ever passed, the easiest option is a dependent visa which most countries follow.

@ fprince @ brin

I think that CIC investigates these type of relationships (arranged
marriages) more thoroughly.

Arranged marriage (short time) --> dowery (money) --> instant PR --> divorce
marriage of convience (short time) --> money exchange --> instant PR --> divorce
quick marriage(short time) --> exchange money --> instant PR --> divorce

Its hard to tell these type of relationships apart for CIC. I think this is
the reason they want to give contional PR visa. If the relationship doesn't
last more then 2 or 3 years then they will kick the person out of the country.

My advice for arrange marriages.

Make sure CIC knows the whole story.

Explain that your families knew each other for long periods of time.
(less investigation)
vs
We made contact on shaddi.com
(heavy investigation)

Long engagement 1-2 years
(less investigation)

ring ceremiony and marriage ceremony same day
(more investigation)

Since I fall in the quick category. At first I was only thinking of
sending pictures of us together in front of Taj Mahal, Red Fort, etc.
Then I realized they want to see an emotional type of commitment,
so I decided to send pictures like my wife kissing my mom on the
cheek and leaving a big lipstip mark. Other pictures where of us getting
on a camel together with a big smile or we're standing in front of
monument X and giving a big hug.

So good documentation is key in this category. Anything that is
too short will be heavily scrutinized.

yup its 1040 for the processing and .. 50 to have the PR card...

I think the documentation of our application is the key...and the simplicity of it for anyone to go through it. Ofcourse if there is a break between engagement and marriage it just sounds more credible....atleast from teh ND perspective and the westerners eye...

I think the other important thing is to have the "status" updated after marriage...with the CRA.. and insurance and such..in my case.. i had my citizenship ceremony scheduled around the time of my marriage.. ofcourse i cudnt attend..I had written a letter explaining this and had my wedding card and tickets sent to the local CIC...my ceremony was scheduled on an alternate date after arrival.. so prolly when they do the cross checking.. these things will show up and firm up the "proof"?

I do like the idea of conditional PR. provided they give it to us rightaway.. like in a day or 2? but having to wait for over 3 months to get the conditional is a little too much...but i cannot deny it does seem to be a reasonable approach to eliminate the "bad guys...ofcourse what are we losing anyways.. our spouse still gets to enjoy the rights and all the other stuff.. soo no biggie...

Cheers,

Sank

It proposes a condition PR and not a conditional entry to canada.
Which means nothing changes with the processing time..apply, wait and get your conditional PR visa...again 6 months. This won't happen in 2 days if it does it is known as dependent visa.
The only change this would mean that the conditional PR behaves for 2 years and not leave the sponsoring spouse if they want a PR status.
Having said this..there so MANY loopholes to stay in Canada once you set your foot here..
Lets say for example..hubby sponsors wife as conditional PR and he is abusive and she separates from him, you think they can send her back after 2 years?
they will find a lot of loopholes..............

@ sank

i was told by cpc-m is that u have to submit only $1040...they didnt talk about the $1090...? so i am not sure if you have to submit $1090 (incl pr card)....

i guess 1090 is only valid for the ppl in canada....but if ur application is "outside of canada"....then it is 1040 (incl everything)

@ def_col_male

i dont think u have to pay that even....i called 3 times to cpc-m....to verify from their office and they too advised that is $1040....

cic website also outlines that this is $1040 (for ppl outside of canada)
https://services3.cic.gc.ca/efee/efee.do

i think $1090 is for the ppl whose applications are in-land or for the ppl who are renewing their pr card?

btw....how much fee have u submitted?

I paid $550 + $490 = $1040 till now.

lets see if CIC will ask for $50 at the port of entry..........

till now I am waiting to be at port of entry if they issue visa fast :)
