Is Surrey a good area/city to live in and raise a family? I always hear about gang wars and drug fiascos, but then again, Toronto's the same..LOL

What kind of jobs are available there? I really wanna move to BC

It's ok, very open space, lots of parks, wide roads, lots of Punjabis here. Surrey is famous for the maximum density of Punjabi's outside punjab. Its also called mini punjab. Punjabi's dominate surrey with almost 35% of total population. However, its really nice, clean and wondeful place. Yes there is problem of Gangwar, but its with people invoilved in those kind of activities. This gangwar and drugs problem is in every big city of Canada. At least I have nothing bad to say about Surrey. Yes, the only people who won`t like Surrey will be who have in their mind that Surrey is no good, or who don't like Indians or one in a billion who hate Indians ( :, you know about whom I am talking about.

Even if you move to Bc, there are many other town you can live in like Burnaby, especially North Burnaby is great, West Vancouver, North Vancouver etc... You dont have to live in BC if you dont want to.

hey you coming from chandigarh? thats my favorite city in india. my parents still have a house in mohali. love it. mind you in my lifetime only been to india about 4 times and always have to spend a week in chandigarh before going travling around/sight seeing in india

I agree with you my friend. It`s called City Beautiful for a reason. Although there is not much for sight seeing here, but still its great. I have a office in Mohalli now and its beside PCA Cricket Stadium, a beautiful locallity. Anyways, I am coming there now. I enjoy staying in Canada too. Its beautiful especially long drives, I love it.

I'm not Hambzik but here are my thoughts

don;t base your decision on gang violence or murder rate. in fact this year edmonton is taking the crown on that one, 45 homicides and counting. This stuff only hurts people who are involved in it. Van is a great place to raise a family. If you want options for jobs then alberta will be better. People in Vancouver get depressed with too much rain and people in alberta get depressed with too much cold. I love it here. Pick any of the 3 western provinces for jobs. Alberta and sask are already starting to feel the pre boom activity so next couple years will be a great time to move here.

One other food for thought. With brown people buying a house or owning your own place is huge. In Vancouver, as per stats Canada, 75% of your salary goes into mortgage/house whereas in Edmonton/Calgary its about 45%. Ontario is also in mid 40% range. That’s why you will see lot of people in Vancouver rent out their basements to ease mortgage payments. Hence surrey is more affordable and has huge south Asian population. Lot of people who live there say its like being in india (could be a good or a bad thing)

If I were you, I would look for your ideal top 3 jobs that will make you happy and then see where you have better chances of getting it…would be icing on the cake if you get a job and then move

You are amazing! You wrote a very concise "to the point" kind of description! I work in settlement, funded by the government and I would probably come for a visit first with my hubby, then move. I am very adaptable to any job but my priority is my hubby and he has lots of friends in bc, surrey specifically.

I love Toronto but we have relatives here and we HATE them..LOL

How are the prices of houses in Surrey? Like a semi-detached?
