Hello everyone,

My parents are granted super visa on Aug 22, 2014 but as you know winters are coming i do not want to call my parents to Canada (Winnipeg) as winnipeg winters are really harsh and don't want them to just sit at home if they come to Canada in Winters so was thinking that:

1. if i can cancel the supervisa insurance for my parents right now will it affect my parents' visa in any way?
2. Would insurance company let me cancel the insurance and make the refund without any issues as they want visa rejection letter in order to cancel and refund money.

When my parents plan to come in summers i will get there insurance done.

Please suggest.

Many thanks,
ASJ

1. No - this won't impact your parents' visa.
2. It depends on the policy you purchased with the insurance company. You should speak with the insurance company directly.

HI ASJ!
Our company works with all the insurance companies in Canada and the refund policy really varies from company to company. Some will not cancel without the rejection letter, while others will charge you a certain fee (ranging from $25-$250) and some will cancel without a problem. One of the companies we work with sends a report to CIC with all the policies that were cancelled to avoid fraud. The best would be to contact the company you bought from and find out the refund policy.
Hope that helps!

I am in a similar situation and my parents were granted a 5 year visa as per the expiration date on their passports.
They have postponed their visit to next year due to different reasons and I cancelled the insurance policy and got a full refund.
I was told by the Insurance Agent to check the Visa Super Visa conditions as there could be a condition that travel must take place within 6 months otherwise visa will lapse.
I have asked my parents to check the documents and they didn't find such mention but I am not sure if they are checking everything correctly.
Are you guys aware of any such possible condition?
My thoughts were if you got a 5 year visa, you can travel anytime within those 5 years and purchase insurance before you travel.

Thanks

Right. You can travel any time convenient as long as they have a valid visa for entry to Canada.

As for the cancellation of medical insurance for the Super Visa, it hugely depends on the company. As it is mentioned, some of them would issue a refund and cancel your insurance for a fee, whereas others will require you to provide them a letter of rejection.

And, of course, you may always purchase an insurance policy prior to coming to Canada.

Hey I saw this post - can you share what company you used for the super visa medical insurance?
