Suggestion please: Canada or India (Imp)

This post of yours made me introspect again as to why I am even considering moving to Canada, when I am leading a comfortable life here in India and trust me this thought has troubled me many times in the last few weeks ever since I have decided to give it a shot. Though I am yet to officialy start the process and hence dont even qualify to give you suggestions but I could not stop myself from replying to your post

I know by the experience of my close family that once you get used to a "better quality of life" that Canada offers in comparison to India, you will never want to come back. I understand that Better Quality of life is a relative term basis one's priorities and Sahil's reply beautifully expalined what I feel a "better quality life" is. To quote a real life example, my real sister along with her husband and kids moved to canada in 2003 and came back in 2006 for the same reasons as you mentioned. 5 years after coming back to India, they decided to move to Canada again. Though at that time they were also well settled in India having income close to $75 k pa and this I m talking about 5 years back. Some things that weighed heavily for their decision have already been mentioned by Sahil.
What I mean is that you need to find your own reason as to why you moved here in the first place and you should give it atleast 2 years before making a real comparison between India and Canada. Give it time. I was in a similar situation (and still am) when I moved from India to UAE. The first 1 year was terrible (professionally and personally). I kept cursing myself on leaving a secure job in IT and moving to a volatile market like Gulf where job security would be zero, if not negative. It even affected my relationship with wife (coz of whom I had moved here).
BUT, as they say, give it time. The same I did. 2 years hence, I am more satisfied (if not completely) with things around. Though I want to move to Canada, but the reasons are not money. Reason is future of my family. Safety and security of my family. There is no better place to raise kids and live with family than Canada. This is as per feedback from many many people i know.
I do not want to go back to India. Look at long term. Tomorrow your kids may not get admission in same city as u live. Then ur life will take a new turn. Another company you join may not offer same facilities. Look at future and compare. Immigrating to a new country is not about current situation, it is about seeing a new future. Change your approach at comparison and see the difference.
Lastly, please manage some household chores and all man. This is part of life. I daily wash utensils while my wife cooks. This is our daily routine and I find happiness in this. Big deal. Life is about small small things you do as a family. Not to forget we have had servants back home since decades. But one has to see other ways of life to learn.
Be positive. The negativity in you will vanish if you give time. Personal experience. All the best.
p.s. I am not advocating good things about life in Canada since I have not experienced it. This post is only to help you come to terms with a new life in different country other than India.

Your salary in Canada is really low ($80K) compared to your Indian salary (Rs 2 lakh per month after taxes).. So your standard of life in Toronto will be poor and hence you are dissatisfied. Cost of living is vastly different between India and Canada.
If you want to have same standard of life as in Indian Rs. 2 lakhs, you've to earn CAD 10,000 after tax per month, which is about 160K per annum. For someone like you, with 12 plus years of experience, if you have fully transferable career skills, you can get about 150K CAD per annum or more. Salaries of immigrants and average salaries are lower, but your case is different since you were making INR 2 lakhs per month after taxes in India. Toronto, being close to New York, New Jersey and Chicago gives great potential for career growth. If you grow in career and work hard, you can make 200K per annum in a few years. It is of course not about macro factors, but your microlife that is more important and influencing for you. So you've to work on improving your canadian salary. 80K is very low for you in Toronto.
Come and stay in Canada only if-
1- you are starving in your home country.
2- have no means/funds/ability/desire to upgrade your skills and jobs, canada has a large number of labor jobs for you.
3- if you can make more than $150k in 2 to 3 years. If you are making less, its not worth moving away from colorful Indian lifestyle.
All who says healthcare is best in Canada, its only good and cheap for regular everyday illnesses. Big surgeries, chronic diseases, drugs and diagnostic like MRIs has long wait times and cost money. Not worth the wait. Medicines are way expensive. Specialists wait times are ridiculous. Good luck for surgeries involving chronic conditions. Those are way cheaper and better managed in other countries.

Having said that, every individual has his/her own experiences. Its really a large difference for someone from India move to Western world rather than for someone from Europe or US to move to Canada.
You seems like a person born with silver spoon, or someone who got everything with ease/connections/money/someone's help in life. I am not saying this is bad, its good and I wished i had that too, so dont curse me on this. Thts why You will surely miss all that here and its better to go back and enjoy the life.

Raising the kids coz its way better in Canada is highly overrated. Anyone can do just a little research about north American high school culture and tell me how its better than India or other countries. Its good if your kids wants to do normal everyday diplomas and degrees like accounting, management, electrician etc, but if you want to make your kids Doctor, dentist, lawyer or other high speciality professional, its way too hard getting in handful of canadian univs. Not to mention the insanely high cost of these professional programs. Atleast in India anyone can send his studious students to become doctors and engineers. Look at the large number of professionals working in US, they mostly come from India or China. Pls do thorough research before moving.

It's not a coincidence that the US and other Western nations are world powers. Quality is their games, while some Asian countries prefer "quantity over quality" and heavily rely on "quantity" to become regional powers.
Opportunities are way less here in US or Canada if you are starting from scratch. You can't get out of the poverty even if you do two jobs if you dont have an initial capital to start with, be it inheritance or recommendations (for jobs). Its impossible for people to climb up the ladder even if they burst their ass. That being said, many average folks consider getting a job of accountant or some everyday job paying $50k-$60k to be a huge success. Those will always be stuck in their lives and try to justify their move to Canada to themselves by taking solace in the fact that their kids would have a better shot at life. But as I said, its highly overrated.

I am not discouraging anyone from moving here by painting a bleak picture. I am just advising everyone to do thorough research in their field of work before moving. Having a well settled career and decent salary should not be given up just to come here and make ends meet so that your kids would have decent life. They won't. I worked one and half year here in unrelated job and faced very tough time but i had the plan to get into dental school to make my career. I got PR along the way but never focused solely on PR. My ultimate aim was to go into top rated dental school in US and I am happy I got into it and will be starting it soon. And I am from third world country and broke as hell, but I managed to do it coz deep down I really wanted to do it.
If you over 30, have a decent salary, and have no experience of living pay check to pay check, dont try to mess up your life by moving to a whole new country and start everything from zero
Be respectful of everyones viewpoints and opinions. Rejecting others opinions shows bigotry. I worked full time job close to two years and also volunteered at local community clinic two days a week. Coz I wanted to do something substantial. Thats why I am saying $150k would be minimum to justify the move. I would be making along those lines once I graduate in two years from now. But I have seen many capable individuals who lost their way and will after being stuck in unrelated jobs for the initial time period of moving here. I feel for those. They feel like they have paid a big price by moving here. Financially, emotionally, socially as well as physically.
