We don't appreciate what we have and always think the other option is better for us
Even I am having the same doubt even before moving to Canada

Thank you for responses -
Thats just my Salary Per Year - $80K
In India - our house hold income with FD's & MF's and few other investments plus salary was close to 2 lacs pm (not 3.2) in hand after tax...
We were satisfied - its just we thought we will make more money + living in Toronto + all those things on internet and movies and all 'Hawa' of being NRI + exciting places + snow...that is why we moved here...

Rent is high - because we live in Downtown Toronto - but more or less - the rent of condo 1+den is between 1200 to 1400 with easy access to downtown in good buildings....in downtown - it starts from 1600+. I know couple of friend who live in Scarborogh - they pay 1250 PM...
Sheena TBH if you were earning 2lac pm in India thr was no reason for you to come to Canada except for better standard of living.
But from your above statement it looks like your 2 lac income was from Fixed deposits and Mutual Funds, which should still be thr?

I will tell you my reason to come to Canada, same as you I was working for a MNC and was earning well and had no regrets. But I knew I would never be able to buy a property of my own even if I saved for next 10 years.

here I already bought a property in the first few years.
secondly I like to travel and Indian Passport does not allow you to travel many countries Visa free.
3rd the health care system is govt. supported. Back home everyone after a certain age starts keeping atleast 5 lacs for his/her medical expenses which can occur anytime.

I would suggest you will have to evaluate other things which are long sighted than the comparison you posted which is extremely short sighted.
You can PM me if you need any help. I live in Toronto too.

Good Luck

planning planning n lots of planning going on
Thank you for responses:

nidakh - i see u have few items in your list:

quality of life - we find no difference
value for money - same - no difference
freedom for our daughter - Yes - this is something to worry in India, I agree.
free health care - it was free for us (company insurance)
Having 911 5 minutes away - my few months old kid in India fainted last year- we reached hospital in less than 10 minutes and all the doctors were available - and entire situation was under control in 20-30 minutes. that was in morning 4 am...and money - i was having few lacs in my pocket - but end of day when i went for bill - everything was covered by our insurance...
education: i mentioned above - I see lots of Indians doing amazing in Canadian corporate world with Indian education...

I mean I am not saying we were super-heroes with extra ordinary life in India - but we were the ones who were getting everything that we wanted by paying extra or contacting big ones (big contacts) when in need..Only thing is 'freedom for our daughter' is my worry....rest everything was easily manageable...

That is why I say - it is not about Canada or India - it is my life in Canada vs my life in India....

Btw - is my salary good enough - what we need to do to enjoy our life here...how can we be happy & free of worry like we were in India...now-a-days we're locked in house due to weather (suffering from cold & flu).....or shall we just pack and go back? we're missing everything very badly :(.....

Sheena your every argument is supporting India,
I think your confusion is very clear in your mind but you want others opinion
See one thing is very clear if you are not happy and going back won't be an issue for u like financially and settling down, then go ahead do what your heart wants.
It's really good to see the other side of the grass, thank u for the post.

You have already listed the pros and cons and that will always be there between any 2 places.Happiness is all that matters. Finally you need to decide where your heart and mind is and that will it your home.

I am from India too.

Firstly, Happy Diwali and Prosperous New Year! Right time to miss our family and friends. I don't know about other, but I miss them mostly in this time of yr. :(

Moving to another part of world is not definitely easy choice. I saw many people even can't able to attend funeral for there own family member, because of traveling time. Don't want to put bad thoughts here, but its just from my personal exp.

As other user mention: Find Indian community in Toronto, they have events every weekend.

You did good analysis here about salary, I have one question: After how many yrs of work exp, one can make same amount of income has you are making right now in Canada (not to forgot that is just in few months after landing.) So, consider if someone had 5 yrs of exp in India and from 6th yr they start making $80k income, just imagine after 5yr of Canadian work exp, where you will be.

In your post you forgot to add kids education and medical expenses, that will turn the story up side down, in terms of saving.

If you start living little bit out side the downtown, you will definitely going to find apartments with 1200-1300 PM.

as an Indian I understand important of family support, and can't argue on that. In a future, If I wanted to go back to India that will be the only reason.

As I said it depends on priorities and why I quoted 911 is because my 11 month old was not able to breathe and was choking on her food, and it took 6 minutes for police and paramedics to knock on our condo door without I even able to tell them my address completely in panic......driving to the hospital in 10 minutes and having money would have done nothing for us. We have company insurance here as well on top of free health care and had it in India too!

So I'm not trying to undermine your confusion but probably trying to show you reasons of why we like Canada over India despite of the fact that we miss our families too! You have a job, so does my husband but I was a top performing professional in my industry IT and here I am not even able to get an interview leave alone sit for one just because I have no Canadian experience! Im still trying because we are very sure about our decision! I guess everyone needs to find their own motivations!

I understand nidakh.... i just shared my experience. life is made up of experiences - our kids situation was bad moment of our life - but it was very well managed in India as well - so that is why I was saying that it cannot be our reason to move to Canada because response to such situations was same.

Yes - salary after 5 years in Canada might me more than what is now - but same will be the case in India.
I can't find any motivation to stay in Canada - I have read all the response 3-4 times -
I think moving India will be best for us.

Someone above rightly said - we don't appreciate what we have....I never gave single thought to happiness in India - i never had to think of happiness in India - because I was so happy - i didn't even realize what life would be without happiness. and trust me - now I think 100 times a day about being happy - I am analyzing things from happiness perspective - in India - we use to laugh out louder if someone says happiness is all we want - we use to laugh because we were surrounded by happiness...
Thiw word - happiness - suddenly become visible in my life's dictionary and its bothering me a lot by ask ' are you happy?' ' is it worth it?' can u give me up to be here?' is money really that important?'...etc. etc...

Oh yes - one more big thing - all our family members n friends - saying - donnot come to India- people are trying hard to be in Canada on PR and you've got such a big opportunity - u have job and PR and all - are you mad/crazy....don't come back......you're lucky....everyone wants to be where u r....blah blah blah.........how to handle them ???

I believe that you moved to Canada for one reason, either you weren't completely happy in India or you thought you could do better here

I am a strong believer that, as humans and full of flaws, we will never be 100% happy in our life, it doesn't matter where we live and what kind of job we have, hence:

"The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence"
