Can anyone tell the biometric procedure for spouse papers? Is it done during application is sent or done when acknowledgement comes?

Sarahh, It should be done upfront with PHOTOS and GOOD thing is there is no need to send extra set of photos. It depends which country the applicant is coming from. This is what I found 4 you:-
Depending on your nationality, you may need to give your biometrics as soon as this summer:
Starting July 31, 2018 – applicants from Europe, Middle East and Africa, Starting December 31, 2018 – applicants from Asia, Asia Pacific and the Americas

Mine application is spouse from pak..my consultant submitted papers including biometric fee but didn't ask me to do biometric .
He said process is letter will come after acknowledgement ..
So I'm confused if this really applies to spouse papers too as written

I don't want application to be returned now due to this miss in case it was required during submission of spouse papers
They will send you an email or if you have your account that is linked to your application it will inform you if biometrics request which needs to be done within 30 days of receiving the letter/email
Give it good 3 months as it is a longer process,;- Application is put in the big lineup then Someone goes thru each page submitted,,,then if all OK>>AOR1>> they start checking Sponsor's Crim record etc..they will determine if the Sponsor is eligible. Without any problems you can expect this to take about a week or more from when they acknowledged receiving your application (AOR1) AOR1 takes anywhere from1 week to months. Even agents who I called said,"we don't know how they work!" other agents he digged deep and told our file was marked for NDVO. Rougly these are the steps:-
- Application received at IRCC
- IRCC start processing application
- Receive Acknowledgement of Receipt (AOR 1)
- Sponsor's Eligibility starts [ it can take months in some cases as ours, a name,DOB match with some1 who has Crim Record. Regardless they check all sponsors 4 Crim record
- Link Application to Online Account
- Sponsor Approval [SA] and File transfer to VO[in some less complicated LUCKY cases they decide to deal file rt here in Canada, but few are still forwarded again to a VO
- VO starts processing PR application (AOR 2)
- Receive Request for Medical Exam
- Medical Exam @ IRCC Panel Physician Clinic
- Medical Exam Result [here waiting game again starts, Some V offices take 1 week to 1 month to start while others dont touch file for 2-3 months >>some are chosen 4 interview]Target is that whole process shouuld be completed in 12 months, BUT not a FIRM promise for all
- Passport Request (PPR)
- Pick-up Permanent Residency Visa

You need to give your biometrics even for visitor's Visa, hence once given find out if it expires from this tool + info page at the 2nd link below:-
