Hello guys,

I need you help please

We applied for a sponsorship on January, my question is that my wife since 2013 didn't get to canada till December 2016, and now she is living there, so is it true it might be refused?

Thabk you
How long was she outside of Canada? Is she a PR or citizen? If she is a PR and was outside of Canada for more than three years, then she doesn't qualify to sponsor you because she doesn't meet the residency requirement. In that case you would also want to withdraw the application as soon as possible since once CIC determines she doesn't meet RO, they may kick off a review of her status and revoke PR.

You have to be more specific in your answer. On exactly what date did she leave in 2013 and on exactly what date did she return in 2016?

She does not meet the residency obligation. Unless she has strong H&C reasons for having remained outside of Canada and can prove her reasons with evidence, her PR status is going to be revoked (and your application refused). Did she apply to renew her PR status under H&C? If so, what reason did she provide for being unable to meet RO and what evidence did she provide to support this?

Quick question about “PR Status” and commuting between the US and Canada for work; I know you have to stay in Canada for 2 out of a 5 year period to maintain PR status. What if I cross the US border daily for work and come home in the evening to Canada. Since my address and residence is Canada this shouldn’t be considered “time outside of Canada”, would it? I eventually plan to find a job in Canada, hopefully within 6 months after landing.

As long as you have an address in Canada and you're sleeping in Canada each night - it's time in Canada and you can count it towards RO.

thanks, what is "RO?" - I plan to apply for citizenship after about 4-5 years so I want to make sure I meet the requirements.

Question:

We've been asked to provide more proof of our relationship, so I took screenshots of several photos, life event statuses, conversations, etc. from Facebook and I also got letters from family. There is link to upload 'proof of relationship' on our CIC account. Is it possible to upload several things or do we place everything in a single file and upload that? I'm thinking the latter.

If anyone has any experience with this, we'd love your input!

If I were in that boat, I'd put all the proof of relationship stuff into a single PDF and upload that.

I can't recall seeing an American/Canadian couple get asked for more proof of relationship stuff when marriage is involved, rather than common law. How much proof did you guys provide up front?

Not a lot compared to what the new kit wants. I'm actually not really surprised they want more. He's an over-the-road truck driver and is gone for long periods of time. Add to that the fact that both of us are rather introverted AND homebodies who are content to just hang out at home alone, we don't have much social stuff in the way of pictures. Thankfully I tend to post regularly on Facebook and I have a bunch of anniversary and wedding posts, holiday posts, and a few photos of family gatherings. I also got letters, which I had asked him for previously, telling him they were important, and he didn't listen. Now I can say I told you so! ;D

They want another Schedule A as well. I hope they're not expecting anything new because it's exactly the same as the first one.

There is a file size limit of 4MB per file on myCIC, so if she can submit everything within the file size limit, she'd be fine.
That's good to know. Thanks!

Hmm. Hadn't thought of that. I never had to submit anything myself.

Compared to what the new kit wants, we didn't have a lot either really. That's why I was curious. We've been married less than a year and together as a couple less than two (though knew each other way longer). We didn't include any letters either, with the exception of one from my husband's parents but that was less about proof of relationship and more proof we would have a place to stay after I landed and we started to get settled. I did provide a lot of the social media stuff up front, we provided a long description of the development of our relationship, and then pretty much what ended up being a chronology of our relationship between when we got together and the point we applied, with the social media posts, receipts, tickets for travel, movie ticket stubs, credit card statements showing purchases when we were traveling, proof of financial support, and a sampling of chat logs.
