Spousal sponsorship

Hi. We will be submitting our spousal sponsorship by the end of this month. I'd like to ask how soon can I apply for a visitor visa after we submit the spousal app? And would it hurt my application if I got rejected for a visitor's visa? I only plan to visit my husband and not stay there for a long time. I still like to wait for my PPR in my home country. Thanks for your help.

Hi,

- You can apply once your husband will be approved as a sponsor. He will receive the approval letter from Mississauga CIC and you must include this letter in your visitor visa package.
- No, it won't hurt your application if you get a rejection.

no. we can not help you get your visa. we may be able to help answer questions so you can apply for your visa yourself. please provide specific questions you need help with and what type of visa you are asking about. if this is not related to your canadian spouse sponsoring you for pr, please post specific questions on the proper board on this forum. (foreign worker, visitor, general immigation, etc.)

If your sponsor is your spouse, or partner, s/he does NOT need to complete that form.

If s/he was being sponsored with you, by someone else, then s/he would need to complete that form.

I have checked CIC website for processing time of outland spousal sponsorship and it says it will take 14 months to process.
Did anyone here get your sponsorship approved within a few months?

As you say you are living in the US, I assume your spouse is American. American apps average about 6 months, with many being processed in even less time.

Hi! My husband is Canadian citizen and I'm Japanese citizen.
Both of us are living in the US now.

Your app will most likely be processed in Manila then, so I believe you'd be looking at around 10 months for processing. I suggest you check the Manila thread.

what are the things that are being checked in background check? is travel checked? how long has this part of the process taken for some of you?
