Thanks!

"I heard about a new regulation that may be coming into place that would dictate that a couple would have to be married for 2 years after spousal sponsorship or the immigrant would lose his PR"

Is this true?"

Does this mean that you have to be married for 2 years until you may apply for PR through sponsorship? Or something else..?

I think it means that once approved for permanent resident, if the marriage breaks down before 2 years after then the permanent residency could be revoked. I don't think it is in place yet. I don't think it has been decided for sure yet as a future requirement. The idea is meant to discourage those who have a marriage of convenience from applying for permanent residency in Canada and give CIC grounds to deport fraudsters.

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had any advice, my boyfriend is sponsoring me to come to Canada under common-law and our time line is the following:

First sent our application to canada on December 31, 2010.

Decision on our application was made on January 26, 2011.

Sent to Buffulo and we have recieved confirmation on February 2, 2011.

Our medical results have been recieved.

They have started processing our application on February 2, 2012.

To this date we have not herd anything from Buffalo, it has now been more than 11 months for the processing times stated on their websites. I have wrote them and all they say is "it is in process" I was wondering if anyone is facing the same situation or have any suggestions on what I can do or why this is taking so long.

Thanks

As I understand, I need a Notary to translate the documents. The question is do I need only Notary signature or I also need a government signature that authorize the Notary signature?

Hi Muffy,

I am already in Canada on visitor status living with my boyfriend, would he want to try and contact a MP?

Thanks!

I'm arranging my husband's application into 3 envelopes:

1) Sponsor forms
2) Applicant forms
3) Proof of relationship

I know that on the document checklist for sponsor and applicant it asks for proof of relationship. Can I simply put in a sheet of paper in each of the first 2 envelopes (sponsor forms and applicant forms) saying "Proof of relationship including blah blah blah blah can be found in a seperate envelope"?

Thanks!

can we ask our MP to follow-up our application on our behalf?

It is my understanding that anyone has that right. I have heard (and it has been my experience) that some MP's will not help if app is within normal processing times. However, a friend of mine who works for Immigration, stated that if an MP states the above that that is a lie. The least they can do is put in for a status update. Some are inexperienced or just do not want to bother doing so. That is just what I was told. Also, I know it does not delay or cause any complications with the processing of your application. I would think that you should, given this information. All the best to you!

Wow thanks for that I hope our MP can help us. Our app is almost 8 months and my passport has been in the embassy for 4 months now. And all I get from ecas is application received.

Hi Everyone

My husband and I completed the spousal sponsorship application kit and submitted it along with all proof and documents in the checklist to Mississauga CIC office on Mar 14, 2012; but we still have no news on any development.
Checking on cic website, we keep seeing the number of days for processing the Sponser's application (Step 1) increasing every week; initially it was 55 days and now its at 88 days and they are still working on applications recieved on Jan 19, 2012.

Is there any way to check on what exactly is our status?

Thanks.

Hi, have you tried calling Canada Revenue Agency at 1-800-959-8281?
