Hi,
I have a few questions about the whole process of my Canadian common law partner sponsoring me a for permanent residency through the family class.
I met my partner in Thailand in December 2017, I visited him in Canada in January 2018 on an ETA and stayed as a visitor, we signed a lease together in April 2018.
In May 2018 I returned to England for some work and to visit family. I applied for a 2 year IEC visa wile I was in England, I was very lucky and got my visa and moved to Canada in June 2018. I consider this to be the day we started our conjugal relationship, we have lived together, paid rent together and neither of us have left the country since June 2018. My ICE runs out on June 15th 2020.
My first question is, is the family class the correct class as I have read about the Canada class and I’m confused as to which one is the best option for me. If I apply under the family class I would like to apply inland so I can stay living in Canada. I would like to also send off for a work visa so I can still work wile waiting for my application to being processed. I have read you can’t extend an IEC so am I even eligible to apply for a for a work visa, and if not do I just apply to change my status to a visitor? Wile I am waiting to hear back for either a work visa or change of status to visitor do I automatically get implied status, and if so can I continue to work?
In the application form, the question “when did you enter into the common law relationship” Is that June 2018 the day we started our conjugal relationship, or is it June 2019
1 year after we started living together? If the answer is June 2019 do we then have to live together until June 2020 before I can apply?
When sending proof of common law relationship, if me and my partner got our joint account together and only just added one another to each other’s benefits before sending of our application will this matter? Is it just proof of address they need or should we have had joint accounts and been on one another’s benefits for the whole year?
When I applied for my IEC work visa in May 2018 I gave a police certificate for England. In the document checklist for common law sponsorship it asks for a police certificate and says it must have been issues within one year. Does this matter in my case as I have not been to England or left Canada since it was issued in 2018?
Thank you for any help in advance.
