Married on 1.4.18 - looking to send in paperwork next week. Wondering about name changes. I know I should apply with whatever name is on my passport but what happens when I receive my COPR? I know those names need to match. Do I change my name and apply for new passport with married name? Do I do that from my home country (USA)? Im already living in Canada - how are you supposed to do that when you cant leave the country?

Hi there! I am kind of in the same boat, except we have already submitted our application. I posted the same question here a few months ago. I decided to just wait to change my name after we get COPR. My passport expires in 2019 so I should have (fingers crossed) my COPR by then. When I get a new passport, I will then change my name on both Passport and COPR. There's a fee to get a new COPR which isn't that big as well. We were more than willing to pay that amount than wait months before we could submit the application. Just giving my situation as an example.

In your case, weigh out how long a new passport would take and if you're willing to delay sending that application for a bit until you get your new passport. I'm pretty sure you can renew your US passport here in Canada, maybe contact the closest embassy to you and I'm sure they can clarify that. I'm a Philippine national and I am able to renew my passport through the Philippine embassy here in Canada.

quick question: when you get the AOR, does applicant's ECAS reflect it in any way (i.e. says "we sent you correspondence on such and such date")?

I'm a Feb 2017 applicant (CIC account says date application received 02/28/2017) so my 12 month timeline is coming up soon. The last I have heard was the medical exam in July which I passed and since then it has been silence... Anyone else from Feb 2017 heard anything or been approved? I know every case is different but my anxiety is through the roof from not hearing any updates for 6 months now...

Just checked my ecas and it says decision made received a message in my cic account, checked it and it was a new comer package plus the review of eligibility changed to we are reviewing your eligibility. But it doesn't say approved on mycic account. I am a Feb 2017 applicant.

Congrats! I know everyone is different, but how long after passing medical exam did you hear an update? I'm a Feb 28 2017 applicant and passed medical exam in July, have not had an update or heard anything else since. I'm coming up to 12 months and still haven't been asked for police checks etc...

I am a Feb 17 2017 applicant, my medical situation was confusing because I had a valid medical from my previous application for study permit that cic actually used initially but that medical result expired in November 2017 so I had to do another one which I did in November and then this mail I got today plus the decision made with no SA and I also didn' pay the RPRF, as I'm waiting for when they'll ask.....

What does your ECAS say? Did you provide police checks and Sch A when you sent the application?

FBI check question:

Is there anyone else from the states that has recently received their FBI background? We submitted early December, but have yet to receive the background check. We've been communicating with CIC (gave them the receipt and tracking information, let them know periodically that we submitted and are still waiting). Just wondering, because the length of time is making us nervous.

Hi @squaredsquirrel
I applied for my FBI clearance letter in late June and received the report in late October.

Hey there! I submitted my fbi request at the end of November. Never got anything back yet but according to what people saying in another group here FBI are provessing now requests thats been sent at the end of September. So I am not really expecting to hear from them at least til March...unfortunately

ECAS means what again..? Provided Sch A when sent in application, but not police checks as we did it partially through a immigration consultant and she told us that we would be asked for it later. Have not been asked for anything yet...

Also, i had previously provided an Australian police check when i applied for my initial working holiday visa, which i received and activated (arrived in Canada) in 2015, but i would assume they would want a fresh one plus Canadian police check since it's been 2 years from the original Australian police check..

Ah, then we'll expect as much. I'm not too worried about it, as long as CIC is satisfied. Their letter with the deadline put us into a bit of a panic, until we saw that they have a whole webpage about FBI delays. As long as it doesn't throw out the PR application, we're fine with waiting.
