Yes, takes a lot of work but definitely doable. I asked because we did all the process with our lawyer and we’re stuck in this 20 months wait. There’s things we cannot do like accessing to our file because we authorized a third so. I guess most people here did everything by themselves.

Thank you so much for answering, by the way!
Did mine at a law firm worst thing ever I paid up over $9000 and they cause me to be stuck for 15 months
I can say to new comers AVOID them , I'm going to write to the association and make complain because the lawyer retired just afteri retained him n he never said anything I just ask for him one day n she said he's retired!! And leave his secretary to do it , she made tons of mistakes n cause my file to return, she charge me 500 to get my son extension n charge me 100, and make some mistakes and withdrew my file in April, 8 months into the process, no wonder my file was sent for further assessment, and cause me to not even get my OWP. People need to run from that lawfirm.

What an awful experience. I don’t want to be negative but in my case I’m feeling like they’re going bankruptcy or something because everytime we call there’s somebody new. You know, something smells really bad there. We feel helpless...
At this point we don’t know if we cut the representatives it’s going to cause more delay.
I guess we’ll go with our feeling, nothing it’s changing anyway.

No problem, happy to share my experience :)

Sometimes, I feel like some (not all) lawyers or consultants purposely delay stuff to get more money out of their clients. I noticed this from when I started reading online forums when I applied for my Study Permit and also for Spousal Sponsorship.

Hope you finally get your PR soon and be done with the stress of dealing with your lawyer

Landed this afternoon at the Vancouver Office. Process was quite fast -- we arrived 15 mins before our schedule and we were done in less than 30 mins. There were two officers conducting the interviews and there was only two people ahead of me before I was called up.

He asked for my husband's ID, my passport and my photo as well as my previous visas, study permit and OWP which he voided.

The questions he asked were similar to the questions asked to other people who landed here in the forum
1. if I have committed a crime in and out of Canada
2. if I have other dependents
3. if I was refused entry or asked to leave Canada
4. he verified if I was married
5. date of first entry to Canada -- this was my entry as a student in 2016 (not as a tourist in 2014)
6. asked if I had plans to travel in the next two months -- he said that the PR card takes that long so in the meantime, refrain from traveling.

My timeline is as follows:
App Received: Dec 11
OWP in Mail: May 3
Med Req: June 8
Med Passed: June 30
SA: Oct 23
DM PA on ECAS: Oct 23
AIP PA mailed to our address: Oct 24, received Oct 31
DM PA Email: Oct 26
Landing Email: Nov 2
Landing Interview in Vancouver: Nov 13

Good luck to everyone still waiting! It'll all be worth it in the end.
Thank you to this forum for all the tips and updates! <3

We got hubby's PR card very quickly it seems quite random the time line for that.

We got our information from our lawyer literally the same hour they received it. You have to be very careful who you are getting to work for you. We had a recommendation from another lawyer we know and it has been very good during the whole experience.

This is insane! How long you been waiting? I requested through the webform as well. I’m hoping to get something more useful than that, It’s has been 20 months for me already
Have you spoken to your MP ? I did with our application and he certainly helped things along. We went just over 13 months.

Does anyone has clear answer to my question:
"What IRCC considers as a 1 Year mark? Is it from the date that they received an application, or is it from the date that AOR was sent (which is in average about 2 months after an application was received)?"
Thank You.
From the date they received your application it will be listed on your ECAS as 'date received' .

Hi guys,

I did my landing interview yesterday! I am happy to finally be a PR of Canada. Thank you all so much for your support this past year and good luck to everyone still in process.

I have one question though, my passport expires in January and my CoPR expires on the same date. How do I go about working if I have not received my PR card yet? My employer wants to have my PR of course. They say it can take up to 60 days to get the card... what if it's not in the mail before my CoPR expires? Can I legally work?
You don't need the PR card to work, only to travel back to Canada via Air if you've been outside the country. You just take your COPR to a Service Canada office and get your SIN number issued. It only takes a few minutes. Once you are a PR you're good to go !

I am just sharing a post from a very reliable source in this forum @sylvain1 . This is pretty much what you would have to do and what to expect.

https://www.ourcommons.ca/parliamentarians/en/constituencies/FindMP
enter your postal code. After you click find MP, you will see the name and the photo of your MP. Click on the name, you will get phone number and email to join his office.

The best is to have the sponsor to make the first contact, especially if the sponsor has Canadian citizenship. Then, you cannot ask a Mp to have your application processed faster, at least not directly. You can ask his help to find if there is anything missing in your application or if there is any reason to explain why your application is not processed in the normal 12 months timeframe. You can also mention (if that is the case) that you tried several time to call the call center, but it's very difficult to get a line. You could possibly ask the MP if he/she can help in asking IRCC to at least issue the first stage of approval (SA and AIP), as IRCC should already have everything required at this point to make a decision on that.

There is no guarantee it will help, but it might be worth trying.

It worked for us but I am a bossy Canadian :p I suggest that if there is an issue you should that is the only way the government will know there are still issues with IRCC processing times.
