Interesting. At the bottom of the page is:

When we applied in February,we were told and I know we also read that we could not leave as it would cancel my application
There is some truth to it, but it is not set in stone. Lawyers tell applicants this to ensure they won't travel outside to minimize risk of being denied re-entry, just to be on the safe side. BUT this is dependent on your specific case. If you have a multiple entry visa/TRV which is still valid, you will be allowed to reenter regardless of the situation of your sponsorship application. If you are from a visa-exempt country, or a country that only requires an eTA, you can easily re-enter. If you were already working or studying in Canada on a work/study permit along with a TRV in your passport before you applied for sponsorship, and your permit and TRV are still valid, you can re-enter Canada. This was my case, I have left and re-entered successfully as I still have a valid study permit + TRV till 2019.
If you came on a visitor visa and your 6 months has elapsed and you are now on implied status waiting for you OWP, or have gotten your OWP, then it is riskier to leave and re-enter. Note that a permit (study or work/OWP) does not guarantee re-entry! It must be accompanied by a TRV (or visa-exemption or eTA).
Whether you can enter or not is up to the discretion of the CBSA officer and they follow the rules in their operating manual "Port of entry examinations", which you can access here and find your specific case: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/enf/enf04-eng.pdf

What you mentioned is cautioned on the full/detailed sponsorship guide on the IRCC website (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5289ETOC.asp#after). See below:

Hey everyone!

So I read in this thread a while ago that you can get your Alberta Health Card even with a Temporary Resident Visa.
I now live in Calgary. My husband and i have been in a common law relationship for 8 years. Can I apply to get my Alberta Health Card without us being married?
I went to the registry today and the guy said that i could apply but have to prove our common law relationship. Since we just moved to Canada only 2 months ago. We have never lived together in Canada. All the proof of our relationship that I had I sent it to the CIC, I have no idea how to prove our relationship. Has anyone been through this before?

I asked all these questions to the registry today but the guy there wasnt even sure about what he was telling me. The first time I asked him if common law partners could apply for the health card he said no. After I insisted and told him that some other people had gotten their health card, he went to the back, talked to his manager and said we could. So I am still not sure of the procedure and how to prove our relationship.

I havent gotten my AOR yet. Should be getting it this week according to other's peoples updates.

I would appreciate some advice ! Thanks !!
Hi there, I have a suggestion. Download and fill out form AHC2212 from the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan. It's the update form to add a dependent. So, it's actually your husband who's going to apply for this. After completing the form, go back to the registry and bring the required documents listed. I don't think it requires you to prove your relationship. It only asks for the date when you guys started living together. My husband and I actually did this right after we got married.. like a month after. I only gave a copy of my passport and my study permit and I think my husband also gave a copy of his driver's license or PR card. I received my card (actually it's a paper :D) after over a week.

Hi, I'm from Fort Mac but I am married so it was easier for me to just show the registry the marriage certificate. I think you need to have at least a year worth of proof or evidence that will tell you live with each other though like same address on bank accounts, driver's license, etc.

I was under the impression not only from the CIC website but also my immigration lawyer that once your application is in, regardless of receiving your OWP that you cannot leave Canada and if you do, it will cancel your PR application and will only be let in on a visitor visa..
Well, I researched this topic a lot. I left Canada twice already...the only questions they asked me at the border were: Do you have your OWP? Where do you work? That's it. Not even one word about PR. They specify at their website that it's at your own risk, however they say that about any type of visa there is.

hi

if your app is not linked online, you will get all requests via email (address specified on your app).

to answer the other question, you can only link the app to your personal gckey account if you remove the representative.

however, if you want to keep the representative on your file, you won't be able to link the app to your personal account.

One more thing, Sponsor link account actually is not really important as it just shows you what CIC sent you.
But Applicant link account is important as you will receive all the requests and instruction letters for the next steps through that account.
On this, my wife is my sponsor and has not once received any emails or notifications, only I have. When I tried to ask why she had not received anything and also to please email her any previous emails meant for the sponsor, they said she was not my representative? but that wasn't what i asked anyway.. very frustrating

From the CIC website
Can I leave Canada while IRCC processes my application for permanent residence?

Yes. However, if you leave Canada while your application is being processed, you must meet all the admissibility rules before being allowed back into Canada.

If you leave Canada and want to return, you must have all the required documents to enter. This can include:

If you are unable to return to Canada, we could determine that you abandoned your application. In that case, we will not process it.

Thank you all so much for your help! After reading this and all the other replies I feel much more confident and will definitely leave Canada once I receive my OWP, I will be travelling for a week or two with my partner/sponsor and have nothing to hide from the Customs so I don't see what could go wrong.

I keep reading about people who did not have any issue re-entering the country but has anyone heard of someone having issues?
