no, I think they mean 2017. they are saying that they are reducing the time to 12 month, so as of today (December 2016) any files they have as of now should technically be approved by Dec 2017. this is not to suggest other applications will be approved before that time. they are just saying 12 months from now, all files we currently have will be completed, at least that is my interpretation.

Mine too. They are aiming for sub-12 months. Anything in flight they are saying must have been completed by December 2017. They have stated that 80% of cases will be done within 12 months.

@legolg: If my guess is correct, you'll be out before March. It's FIFO now, so watch for cases around yours (like ours) for progress..

That's making it a lot longer than 12 months though for some people. I don't know, this is a bit confusing.

they are not saying that ALL applications they currently have will have to wait until Dec 17 for completion. they are saying they are reducing the time for applications that are sent to 12 months, and possibly less. nothing can be done about the fact that there are many people who have already been waiting over 12 months. they obviously can't go back in time and force a 12 month processing for 2015 files. what they are saying is, we know there are many people waiting 2 years. we are putting an end to this. we are going to process applications by a first in, first out process. those who have been waiting more than 12 months will (probably) get first priority in processing. all applications received less than 12 months ago and as of today should see completion by 12 months.

When I initially checked my sponsorship application status on CIC, it showed me three lines as follows on the status under Sponsorship Application Status as follows:
1. We received your application to sponsor XXX on XXX
2. We started processing your application on XXX
3. We sent you correspondence on xxx

Now, when I check my application status online it only shows the first line and the other two got removed.
1. We received your application to sponsor XXX on XXX

What is the reason for this?

The new application flow chart is out.

I guess its 12-months whenever u applied, u can see 2015 cases now has priority it will be complete soon and 2016 has already started/ done partially and most of them in-process already they will complete within that time period of 12-months.

One more thing i have noticed may be they will give priority to citizens first rather then PR spouses. May be i m wrong

no, doubtful. Citizens do not have priority over PRs. that has nothing to do with the wait times. there is no indication this is going to change moving forward. =

As CDNPR2014 described, there already is a backlog. And it's huge; like 80,000 cases. So, the target is any case submitted as of today is 12 months or less (80% of cases). That also means cases in the backlog have highest priority, as they need to clear those out totally before they can meet their 12 month objective. So, ya, in the next few months you will see a big bite into 2016.

CIC has been busy. New numbers for Q3 are out. CIC processed another ~16,000 spousal apps in Q3, bringing the total for Q1-3 to ~44,000. This means it will process a record ~20,000 apps in Q4 to meet the 64,000 processing goal we keep hearing about!
