If it helps any, I had my medical done in January 2016, and I found out today they've extended it to April 2018! Good luck to you.

So we landed this afternoon Was quick and easy, the usual 3 questions -any criminal record, any dependents, and have we left the country. Changed Sin no. there as well. Think I was very lucky the Cic agent (June) called me rushed the process before my medical expired, wish they were all as nice as her.​

Granted entry is when you cross the border. So they have status when they cross.

In terms of PR + OWP: if you apply before the IEC expires for visitor status, he had implied status as a visitor... So as long as you have done that, and you can show you sent it (online they will already know, if you sent paper, include a courier receipt), and you can also mention it on IMM 0008 if they return the app (applied for visitor status after IEC and the date applied).

Important to note that, if his status somehow runs out, he can still apply for a PR inland, but no OWP until they tell him he is eligible (AIP). So worst case, he applies as out of status. There is a few cases here that did that, and most are still successful.

The first time I sent the package off I put the wrong postcode in...my own! Now I'm worrying about it being sent back too late but you info has given me some peace of mind!
All I can say is that this process seems more efficient than the Italian process.

I can't speak about Italy, unfortunately. But thanks for that heads up .

Try not to worry. You do have time still. You can also try to call the call centre (888-242-2100) to ask if they happen to know what is going on (if the application has been received or do they expect to return it).

But, even if he ends up out of status (after his IEC expires), you still have 90 days that you can pay an extra $200 to restore status (in the OWP package). You can apply to "restore status as a worker".

There is no implied status, unless there was an Open Work Permit filed. The PR application does not have a provision that provides for an implied status.

With that in mind, that would mean that you should apply to extend the visitor status of the minor. Explain that you are applying in Canada for spousal sponsorship, and that the minor is with you.
