I did not know about the OWP. But my husband is going to be 66 and deserves a break..haha ( I am a bit younger) Hopefully we are not a unique case.. He has been here since March of 2014 and never had a problem to get an extension. The OWP is neat because it gives the holder the ability to stay and to work if they wish. That is almost always guaranteed to be issued with inland applications. SO, keep that in mind, just in case they do not approve the visitor extension (which I suspect they will, given that they will find his PR application on file).
The rule is, once you file some form of Temporary Resident permit, you have implied visitor status until they decide. There are some special cases where the status is a little different, but in this case, it's visitor.
I am pretty patient but we had a scare with his mom in Michigan. She is 90 and had a severe health problem.Right on Christmas Day she ended up in the emerge.. Of course he is eager to see her as soon as everything gets through..
