My wife and I submitted:
- Marriage Certificate
- 4 letters from my family (2 were Statutory Declarations from my parents, 2 were signed by notary witnesses) stating they know of our relationship, that it's progressive and on-going, and that my wife is an excellent step-mother to my son.
- 30 (then a follow-up case update with 35 more) pictures of everything from our (small civic) wedding, to our honeymoon (we rented a cottage on a private island for a week in Northern Ontario), fishing trips, visits to NF Ontario / Toronto / etc, family BBQ's with members of her and my family present in the pictures, etc.
- Proof of employer benefits covering her, as well as my pension bearing her name as a beneficiary.
- Her IELTS results (because she does speak fluent english -- but that's not her primary language).
- A Declaration of Severance of Common Law from me WRT my ex -- we have a child together.
She applied for an OWP, and they mailed it to the same address that we included as her and my address. She has collected a Temporary SIN and has even started working.
If they want more, we can send:
- Copies of both of our Ontario ID Cards (Both have DL + Health Cards) -- bearing the same address
- Bank Account proofs showing the same mailing address (we have yet to share account yet)
- Cell phone accounts bearing the same mailing address
- Now that it's a new year, and she had an OWP and worked last year, NoA's bearing the same mailing address
- Her employer records / paystubs and mine both bear the same address
- During family court proceedings that I went through after a breakdown in a binding agreement my ex and I had WRT her and my son, I named my wife in the filings as a party I intended to be involved in raising my son from my perspective.
Unfortunately, my property insurer will only send mail to me (as the title to the home is in my name; I owned before I married; transferring has issues and costs money; low on the priority totem pole). Because she is a family member, all of her belongings are insured though. Also, she only has a G1, so they won't name her on my car policy yet. Both are easy to explain to CIC and I can provide proof from those insurers that it's their policy limiting us.
That's the kind of proof they would be looking for. There is gaps, and we are prepared for them. That said, we have some pretty strong evidence IMHO. Only the officers can decide or not .
