The problem is the CBSA could refuse you re-entry for whatever reason. If they did that, then CIC could deem your application abandoned. They will permit a month or less in terms of travel, but the problem lies with the objectivity of the CBSA officer.
I just asked this question because one of our friends had also applied for inland spousal in march 2016 itself and they have travelled to USA for more than 3 times since his wife got the open work permit and visitor visa and they didnt face any issues in travelling.anyway so we will then just wait for the pr hoping to get it soon.!
