Hi applied for my application in dec 2020, my work permit expired in feb 2021. 11th june 2021 i received my file back stating the marriage certificate attached is not correct.
- i called IRCC before purchasing license/ certificate before ordering. 2 agents at ircc & service ontario said detailed license ( certificate) is appropriate.
Now the liscence is a certificate which had my civil marriage date, witness signatures, place of marriage etc. It was a very much approved govt authorized form which on the document checklist is accepted!!
-1 of the form hand signature was missing- form 0008 did not require a hand signature.

Now my concern is, my file will not be immidiately picked up it will be thrown back in the queue.
Not sure what to do!
If anyone know what i can really do or has any experience?

What is the title on the marriage document you submitted?

It may look official but it sounds like the wrong document. I don't believe the Ontario marriage certificate has the witness signatures.

If it was the certificate of marriage, it will have certificate of marriage written in the upper right corner (I think).

It sounds to me like you submitted the doc called solemnization of marriage, which is a different doc and not accepted.

It has a certificate number but says marriage licenses.
My issue is, if someone read in detail that form would realise its a valid 'govt issued id for proof of marriage' has all the details of marriage in it. !!!

I edited my post above with more detail. You submitted the wrong document. You will need to order your certificate of marriage.

To reiterate, a marriage license is not a marriage certificate. A marriage licence is a document that allows you to get married, it is not meant as a document to prove you got married.

In Ontario you can get two different documents from the office in Thunder Bay. One is the long form of the marriage license (which does look official and has the witnesses signatures, place of marriage, etc on it)

The other is the marriage certificate, which is a shorter, glossy, official looking document that is on a standard size sheet and only has the most important info on it.

Sounds like you sent in the long form of the marriage licence. You need to send the marriage certificate (which also costs less to order) and is on that glossy, yellowish/brownish official looking paper with a piece showing your address that can be torn off or left on. (Making the certificate itself two thirds of that standard size sheet.)

Yes, that too! Been two years since I got my own, but I feel like when you order from the website they aren’t as clear as they could be with the wording. I think it’s worded something like certificate of marriage long form and short, which is a bit deceiving. Basically it’s the short one those from Ontario want.

Yes i agree. However, this was not just a liscense it was a certificate as it had our marriage date, witness & location of marriage, name of bride &groom. So it was really a certificate just very detailed.

Marriage license doesn't state the registration date and number of your Marriage with the statistics authority of the province. At least it doesn't in BC. You should look for that number. IRCC needs too see that your Marriage was registered, for this matter they will look and check that number.

If it doesn't say certificate of marriage, it is not the marriage certificate.

I handed in the the one I described to you earlier for Ontario and my application went through just fine. It’s the short one. The marriage certificate, not the certified copy of registration.
