Hello,
My Husband applied to sponsor me (I was Born in China, but I have been living in PERU for the last 25 years), He got the approval as Sponsor email about a month ago, but then said that the Application Package has been sent to Hong Kong instead of the Visa Office in Perú.
We called CIC reporting the mistake, they said that they are going to write a note about that, and we are going to have a response in 3 months!! thats a lot of time.
2 weeks later (September 17th), I received an email from Hong Kong Visa office confirming that my application was received in Hong Kong. I wrote an inquiry about the mistake, and still waiting for the response (it says its going to take 28 working days for a response "if they respond").
I don´t know what to expect; Im afraid is gonna take a lot more months than in Peru, I believe thats a mistake, because "the VO in Hong Kong has no information about where I´ve been graduated, or Worked, etc; and in CIC web page, my home address is: PERU"

Do any of you have any information about this? .. Should I keep calling CIC?
I would really appreciate any comments.
Thank You
Biling

This happens a lot, CIC often sends the application to the applicants country of birth. Send an urgent but polite case-specific inquiry explaining the issue. That is all you can do. You can try calling again as well, but I'd have more confidence in the c-s inquiry. The problem now is if they do agree to send it to Peru, there will be a further delay while they send it.

Hi "Aquakitty",
Thank you for your response. I was wondering, if they process the application in Hong Kong, is that mean that once they approve it, I will have to travel to Hong Kong to get la Visa? Thats the confusing part for me, because I live in Peru.
Thanks in advance for your Help!

Technically CIC did not make any mistake, because it's their choice to choose your outland visa office based on residency or citizenship. So in your case they chose citizenship... though it does make a lot more sense if they had done it based on residency in your case.

Anyways there are a few issues you should be aware of.
If you request to move your file, they may in fact do this (others have been successful asking to move visa offices). However if they transfer your file there may be a delay of several months to sort everything out.
If you keep the office in China, you would not need to go there to get visa. You can mail your passport, they will put the visa in it, and mail it back to you.
The only reason you'd maybe need to go to China is if they request an interview, though in most cases as long as there are no concerns in your application the interview is usually not required.

I am in the same situation than you. actually I sponsor my wife who's been living in paris more than 5 years now but her file was send to her citizenship country that is Senegal. I called CIC to get the her file transfer to Paris but they said it's not up to them now cause and they advised me to send a message to Dakar/Senegal and I did so and it's been more than 5 months now and I never get any feedback.

Hi bilingxie,

I had the same situation as you (in fact I'm still in it). My app was sent to my birth country instead of the country when I have been living almost all my grown life. We sent an enquiry to the cic (in a very polite and correct way) explaining our situation. Fortunately for us the they changed the vo of destination to a different VO (the office of the country where I'm living). The re-transfer of our file between VO's took about 2 weeks after they noticed us about their decision. In our case the cic and vo's where very correct and helpful, so if they access to change your file of vo doesn't necessarily mean a huge delay in your app.

Best of the luck!!!
