Hello!

I have a question.

I am a canadian citizen, lived here almost 30 yrs. I sent in a spousal sponsorhip application last year. My partner is from Europe. The first stage was approved, now he has an open working visa until 2014. I am waiting for his police certificate to arrive.
If I file for bankruptcy now, would that effect the sponsorship? Could they cancel the already approved stage? Or how would it affect the final decision? Both of us are working full-time.
I don't know what to do!

Thank you

If you file for bankruptcy before he receives his PR visa - then it will very likely affect the final decision if CIC finds out. If you really have to file, you should wait until after he has received his PR visa and has landed in Canada as a PR.

Hi!

I own a numbered company. Could the company file for a bankruptcy without effecting the sponsorship?

On a purchase of the business, beside the company number, my own name is on it. I purchased a business and can't afford to pay the balance off.

Thank you

There's a difference between personal bankruptcy and corporate bankcruptcy. Only personal bankruptcy applies to immigration. Talk to a bankruptcy lawyer.

It depends, you need to talk to a trustee in bankruptcy for information about your situation. They will look at all your assets/liabilites etc...i handle some bankruptcy papers at work and sometimes it shows the consumers name and company that went bankrupt one the bankruptcy docs, which also appears on their credit file.
