Form IMM1344E , In the Sponsoring eligibility assessment Section

Question 5: In the five years preceding application, did you become permanent resident after being sponsored as spouse, common-law or conjugal partner?

Mentioned in Guide that

If you answer “Yes” to any question between 5 and 15
You are not eligible to be a sponsor. You should not submit an application.

That means If I am become permanent resident after being sponsored by spouse after Jan 1,2010 , I am not eligible to apply for my parents PR

I re-read the guide few times on this point, I can't find any alternate meaning to this requirement other than If you become permanent resident after being sponsored by spouse after Jan 1,2010 , you are not eligible to apply for your parents PR. I would call CIC to verify for sure if I were you though, but the statement seems to be straightforward to me.

Hello All,

Need some advice on parents sponsorship. We are in kind of unique situation....

I got my Canadian PR (Spousal Sponsorship) on Nov 2014 while i was in Canada on Work Permit from 2010 onwards.

My question is can i sponsor my parents as i just got PR?

Income criteria is not a problem as me and wife(co signor) have adequate income to cover for the last three years. Form IMM1344 says " You cannot sponsor if you have been sponsored within the last five years". Can my wife be a primary sponsor (she is Canadian citizen) while i co sign.


KD, my 2 cents here for what it's worth: no, you can not sponsor your parents as you've been sponsored yourself during last 5 years and I doubt your wife can sponsor your parents either as part of required documents requires proof of principal applicant's relationship to sponsor (not co-signer) - photocopy of sponsor's birth certificate

I am going to sponsor my parents...I don't have my Date of birth cerificate. I do have grade ten and twelve certificates and my old passport copies to show relation to the applicant. I am a Canadian Citizen. ...should I include an affidavit from Canadian Notary Public for my DOB?
Please advice on this.

I just happen to talk to a lawyer about this issue. As this question #5 in IMM1008 states "In the five years preceding application, did you become permanent resident after being sponsored as spouse, common-law or conjugal partner?"

This condition is applicable only if you are sponsoring a Spouse/Comman Law while you have been sponsored by a spouse within 5 preceding years. As to deter individual from fraud marriages etc.

Hope this is clear and would be helpfull to "IPSKANG" . Tried calling CIC several times but it just seems not working, Either it doesn't get to a live person or simply disconnected after a wait time.

If someone can get it further clarified please keep all posted. But if you check Form IMM1344 it's clear right above the question #5.

I have a question regarding work history for 2013, 2012 and 2011. What if I changed jobs let's say in 2012.
Shall I write in this row something like this 1/1/2012 to 12/31/2012 CompanyA/CompanyB CompanyA address/CompanyB address $50,000?

I'm also in the process of sponsoring my mother (widow) but I guess I've to wait upto Dec 27, 2014 if CIC change the forms, I know last year, some applicants already submitted their sponsorship app and got rejected after 2 months of wait to re-submit with the new forms (if the 5000 gap has not been filled)

What documents arequired accepted in place of a birth certificate? I am a sponsor, Canadian Citizen now but don't have any date of birth certificate from my country of origin.

No they don't accept pay stubs. If you don't meet the requirements for year 2011, you'll have to wait until 2016 and apply then.

It states right in the guide you need incomes from 2011, 2012 and 2013 meeting LICO to apply in Jan 2015. And also it states clearly that official CRA forms such as Option C or NOA, are the ONLY proofs accepted. Paystubs are definitely not accepted as they are not CRA issued documents.

Fortunately I applied for mother last year and she is part of 5000 application. Now I am applying for my in laws and my wife was got PR after came to canada as student. We are eligible to apply, I thought that I should put word out there and get clarification as I was curious.
