To benchmark your expectations I received my wife's re-med on end of march ( just at the 14 month mark) and completed and couriered it back in the first week of April, and are still waiting to hear back regarding what is next, ( hopefully a passport request!)

good luck!

I also get a remed request on April 6th. Nothing since.

This is the final step. The wife received a remed request on December 3, 2013. She redid her medical on December 12. The wife received her CoPR by courier on February 14, 2014.

Manila is a joke. If your spouse is not Filipino, be prepared to wait 14 months or longer.

Don't mean to rub it in but my wife is from Korea and we got ours done in just under 8 months. Might be the fastest on the Korean board from what I've read. I feel sorry for everyone who still hasnt received their COPR. Seems like they are moving faster in Manila though so hopefully everyone will hear good news soon.

They sent out COPR for us the day they received the additional documents requested so you could be hearing from them soon.

That is all pretty much wrong.

There is no such thing as an "emergency card" if you need to travel before getting PR card. If you are not visa-exempt, you need to arrange for a "PR travel document", which is done at a visa office of the foreign country you're visiting. Not before you leave Canada. And this travel document is only for an airline to let you board the plane. Completely not needed if you're driving.

Also you don't need a PR card to re-enter Canada. If you can make it back to the border (either by driving here or flying on a visa-exempt passport) then just a passport and COPR is good enough for CBSA to let you in. They can very easily check PR status on their computer system and don't require the physical PR card. Countless people (including my wife) have done this.
Interesting. The agent who went over the docs with my husband specifically told us that he couldn't use the COPR as a travel visa and that if he left Canada he risked not being able to return. In fact, it's stamped across the front of the COPR "Not Valid for Travel". And the attached docs he received with the COPR said that in case of an emergency he could apply to have his PR card put on a "rush" status, which is also what the first Canadian agent said when we arrived back at the Canadian border. Either way, it's not likely we'll need to leave Canada before he gets his PR card.

Maybe the agents just assumed he was from a non-visa-exempt country. Would they automatically know that Korea was visa exempt? Because it makes sense that they would tell that to someone from, say, Philippines, who needs a visa to enter Canada, even if they are in the process of getting PR. At any rate, it seems the agents were misinformed.

A CBSA/immigration officer should know what countries are visa-exempt and which aren't. I mean, isn't that the whole basis of their job?

Even for a non-visa-exempt traveler, it's still fine to DRIVE to the USA and back without a PR card. When they get back to Canada, just the COPR and passport is fine.

It's when you're flying it's an issue, since a non-visa-exempt passport holder requires a physical PR card or will be denied boarding at the foreign airport. You can't use COPR with the airline, which is maybe what the officer was referring to.

But once at a Canadian POE, you don't need a physical PR card.

I had the additional delay of a month due to the CSQ. That being said, I agree with you.

Currently at the Carway border. US side was ok. They gave my wife an admission refusal slip which i think just shows that we entered the states and are coming back. US border guys were surprisingly nice. Canada side took our passports, gave us a slip and said to park and come in. Walked into the border office and the officer was a guy i went to university with. Great way to break the ice by the way. He asked my wife the generic questions they ask everyone. Where are u going to live, have u ever been convicted of an offence, been refused entry to canada or have been kicked out of canada. He said to wait while he processes which he is currently doing. Lucked out so far because the other officers look cold. There are quite a few people flagpoling at this time. Theres a waiting room for people at least. Almost finished the process. Will update when she becomes an official PR.

Process s all finished. Wife is a PR. I asked about the travel issue. He said the only problem that you might have is the airline or airport. As for getting into canada, the system shows that she is a pr so no problems. So

Hey everyone,

Still waiting on ANY word from Manila (haven't seen an ECAS update or heard anything since Mississauga posted that they received our package back in January) Not too worried about it though, as it seems to be par for the course here on the 'black hole' of waiting.

Anyways, regardless, we are out of here in August - we'll flagpole if my wife doesn't get her PR by then (which seems 99,9% likely)

My question: SHIPPING

We are shipping a king sized bed home + I'd say about 30 boxes of clothing / other crap

bartjones, recommended "Hyundai Shipping" Anyone have any other recommendations, and if so, some contact details (korean number would be great!) We are in Daegu, but I'm sure most shipping companies operate nationwide - so any info would be great! (re: slow-boating large items back to Canada from Korea)

Thank you!

My question: SHIPPING
We just used ONNURY Green Shipping on Thursday, and they were great. They have a minimum fee of 1.1 million won, and that gets you packed, shipped to Vancouver, train to Toronto, and truck to my place in Pickering. The 1.1 also includes your first 3 "cubics", with each additional cubic being 190,000. To be honest, I am still not entirely sure how big a cubic is, but they said that it is about the size of a standard sized washing machine. We ended up sending 8 cubics, which was a ton of crap. There number is 02-326-2489.

The guys who came to our house were really nice and did a good job of packing everything up. They said that it will be delivered within 70 days. With the payment, you pay 70% the day that they pick the stuff up and the rest once the stuff clears customs.

If you have any other questions, just let me know.

Actually I think I recommended Korea Shipping International and their contact information is somewhere back in this thread.
