Just looking for advice on the best way to proceed. I have lived in Canada and have a PR since 1977. I sponsored my ex-wife but we have been divorced over 7 years and were married 11 so my obligations are done.

With my fiance, who I just proposed to on her last visit here in September, (We have been going out for 5 years so not a fling), lives in Scotland and we are wondering if she should sell her stuff, quit her job and move here and then we get married within 3 months. If so, what does she tell immigration when she arrives in Vancouver? Is there a chance they could send her back? We would by a return ticket, but just not use the return part as we would apply for an extension of the 6 month Visa showing we are married and waiting for the paperwork. Guess the downside is that she could be sent back, or that she can't work here until the papers come through and she would have no medical coverage?

The only other option is to come here to Canada get married quickly and then she goes back and we file the paperwork and wait for approval. Upside is she continues working and has a place to stay, but it could be 18 months before we hear back and that this a long time to be apart..

Option one we are together immediately while Option 2 we are apart until get our papers?

Advice please

The first step is to get married. If she comes over to Canada she will not be able to bring all her belongings over with her. She is not allowed to move here until PR status has been granted. However, she shouldn't have a problem entering Canada especially with a return ticket.

Then you should file an outland application. Even if your wife/fiance is in Canada with you, you can still file outland. All outland means is the visa office, not your physical position. (I filed outland through London while in Canada, lots of people do)

You will send all paperwork to Mississauga where they will assess you as the sponsor. Then the paperwork will be forwarded to the London office. As you can see from my london spreadsheet, the average length of processing time from sending to mississauga to receiving the passport request from london is 120 days, not 18 months.
Once she gets the PPR, she can send her passport to London from Canada and have it returned to her in canada, she she must 'land', then she is able to obtain a SIN and work etc.

It sounds easy but it is a long and hard process. Join the London thread if you have more questions, people will be happy to help.

So if you want to be together in Canada, you can. I would highly recommend outland though!!

Thank you for your reply. It was really informative. I have asked my fiance to post in the other forum as it seems a wealth of information.

Thank you again..
