I applied on June 22nd. My husband's application was sent to Rome on Aug 18th, today I received passport request. I know people whose application got approved in 3 -4 months time. So you never know with Rome. I think Rome is working faster now. You should be done within 6 months.

Let's hope it takes 6 months for me too. Good luck with your living in Canada.

First of all i wish you good luck and i suggest you to have a lot of patience. I got passport reguest at 30/01/2017 so that seems to be finalized soon. They received my application at 11/7/2016 , they started proccessing it at August , got sponsor Aprroval at 25/8 and since then i was waiting and waiting adn waiting and waiting any news from Rome . So , in total , the whole proccedure lasted 6-7 months , which is quite fast.
You have to consider that
1) The proccesing time of application depends for when and where are you aplying , (New application package or old)
2) Any erros or mistakes of filling up the application could delay the proccess
3) I suggest you pay all the fees upfront
4) MEdicals should be accepted
5) Respond immidiatelly to anything they request. ( additional documents)
6) Register to my cic , link your application there and you will have more informations about your account . http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/e-services/account.asp

Everything was payed upfront for the application. One thing i have tried endlessly and have not been able to do is link my application to my CIC account.
It always responds to me that my application not found (I check it through check status of course)
Anyway, thnx everyone for the good words. I really hope i will not have to wait for 12-14 months. My wife has already come to visit twice last years(in 6 months) because i was refused a tourist visa. It's a lot of expenses when you are trying to build a family.

Hi there, I'm sponsoring my husband from Albania. I sent my sponsor application and his PR application together and CIC received on Aug 25, 2016. I got my approval letter on Sept 28, 2016. The file was transferred to Rome VO and started processing on Oct 11, 2016. Meds, fees and police records were done upfront and submitted with the application. Meds have passed. I received an email response from Rome VO early December saying they received my husbands file in October and it's under review by a visa officer. His file has shown in progress since October 11, 2016 when Rome started processing. Background and Decision not started and interview says not required at this time. Hope to hear good news soon.

I never received an email from Rome until two days ago when they asked for my husband's passport. I think its a good sign.

You are 2 months ahead of me so hopefully they ask for his passport in a couple months. No questions or requests have been made by them up to now. Do they email my husband or me asking for his passport? Do they update the online status frequently?

Did you get the PR letter from them? Any communication since you sent a copy of your passport?
