Professional Qualifications Assessment

I received a reply from ICAS which says that the assessment bodies DO NOT assess any professional qualifications like for example: ACCA.

So for us professionals, how do we have our qualifications assessed?

Any one got any clue or is it too early to tell what CIC requirements would be?

Why didnt you go for renowned academic degrees in accounting those are traditionally taught in colleges/universities ?

I dont believe ACCA can replace a 4 year college degree in Accounting

Hmm so according to the first link, an ACCA Member is considered as a Bachelors in Canada. Well that's 3 points less than i expected, lol but still this proves it is recognized but still its a professional qualification. We have to wait and see how to obtain the equivalent credential for it as these assessment services wont assess it.

Who's statement is it and who certified it?
A professional certification cannot be accepted as a conventional bachelor degree.
ACCA holders might well be doing stuffs equal to someone with a college bachelors but no way near qualified to the wide range courses the college graduates learned during their 4 year college degree.

TBH, i am of the opinion that the ACCA Qualification holds far more prestige than a B.Sc. in Accounting or something related. In any case, as ACCA Members, we also get a full fledged B.Sc (hons) in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University for no real added effort. But thats all besides the point, its all about scoring the maximum in our application.

I will give you the Canadian employer point of view (I was born in Canada and have worked for the big Canadian banks for 15 years).

You need to convert your ACCA designation to CGA when you arrive. The ACCA designation has low/no value or recognition.

Employers want to see CA, CGA or CMA.

Scylla is absolutely right !!

If I am not wrong then ACCA is british Standard and CGA is Canadian/US Standard.
Canadians would want you to take CGA tests and passed. I have seen many passed 1st three tests but as the tests gets into 4th 5th phases, they get harder.
I guess its frustrating for the ACCA holders to take CGA but nothing to do.

@jnatha, actually it is very easy to convert to CGA. As previously stated ACCA has an MRA with CGA, which basically means all an acca member has to do is complete an online Canada Tax & Law Exam for $300 which is very easy, i have seen it and pay the membership fees. ACCA Members dont need to give any further exams for becoming a CGA. I know this, cause a few of my friends did the same when they went to Canada under NOC 0111/1111. Now we cant apply under these NOCs as far as I know. I just hope my NOC1312 Loss Adjusters shows up this time.
I will apply for CGA from within Pakistan as it is cheaper (Foreign membership fees is $450 and in Canada $800) only if and when i am granted the visa, then go to Canada prepared as a CGA. So in all, i think ACCA Members are in a good position if they are granted immigration to Canada as Job Outlook for CGAs is very good.
