Been many years since I've logged on here, oh how I haven't missed CIC! I am just thinking about renewing my PR, my case should be straight forward, spent most of the past 5 years in Canada, just a few vacations and weekends in the US. Where should I start with supporting documents? What do I need to get?

Yeah, I have obviously checked that out, my question was related to supporting documents. The CIC link doesn't state that further proof is required other than following that guide and filling out that application form. I'm trying to see is that actually true.

Whatever is requested as per the following link, you should send that :http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/prcard.asp

CIC will contact you if additional documents are required.

You should definitely include the photo copy of your passport(s), PR card and your COPR.
Passport copy will give an indication for your time of stay in Canada.

Rest, follow the guide and that will give you an indication.

Is a photocopy of the picture page of passport sufficient or is it worth photocopying every passport page. Also, do you list day trips to the US in your list of absences and what do you enter for number of days in such a case. Thanks

Send color photocopy of each and every page. Make sure not only the stamps and visas are clearly readable, the page numbers on the pages of passport should also be readable.

Day trips I dont think count as absence.

All the exit and entry stamps and other visas which are not in English or French to be translated when sending the PR application form or wait till IRCC request for the translation, please advise. Thanks

- Color photocopies of your passport pages (with any stamps translated)
- Notice of assessment for the past 5 years
- T4 slips
- Rental agreements
- Employment letter
- Cover letter if needed.

Thats what I sent. Granted my renewal is still in process - but I havent been sent to secondary review yet.

The secondary review spooked me into doing all this. Better safe than sorry - even in simply cases.

I don't know why you guys are all making it so complicated. The instruction guide, available here:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5445ETOC.asp

Is very clear. You just fill out the form, and supply what it asks which is:

  • Photocopy of PR card
  • Photocopy of passport page with your information as proof of identity
  • The photos

Everything else people are listing, like photocopies of every page stamped, rental agreements (why?) are not asked for and in my opinion only serve to show that you're either lying and trying to cover it up, or just making the agent frustrated having to wade through all sorts of stuff they didn't ask for.

Assuming you check the box to allow CIC to talk to the CBSA and the CRA, they will get all the other information themselves. Passport stamps prove nothing, and tax info from the CRA will prove residency along with CBSA records.
