Hi everyone, My application was received in july 30, 2012, sponsorship approved November 8th. I am sponsoring my common-law husband from the US. No news since then. I was just wondering what everyone's experience has been with CPP-OTTAWA? Has anyone been called for an interview? Do they ask copies of passport only or the actual passport? Are they usually less picky (or maybe I mean leaniant) with US/Canada? Do they give priority to those who are actually married? Does anyone know if they update ECAS on a regular basis? status is still showing application received........tks everyone for sharing your thoughts with me.
No, there is no priority for married versus common-law. Under law, they are treated equally.

I think I've seen one interview request. Note that interviews are not conducted in Ottawa, so that means a transfer to a US office.

US applicants seem to have less scrutiny. Similar cultures, similar economics, many of the usual factors involved in fraud are not evident in such relationships. They update e-CAS randomly. Sometimes it doesn't change much (last time I looked my application was "in process" and I landed two months ago, in fact.)

Yeah but the sad thing to me is that the two offices that have the highest cases of fraudulent marriages continue to have the fastest processing times..

I was thinking the same thing. It makes absolutely no sense that the countries with higher counts of fraud get their applications rushed through in the blink of an eye. Makes me wonder if CIC really cares more about not having fraudsters in the country or just politics.

That would be why there are so many fraud cases because they are not caught before PR is granted... just my opinion...

Oddly I was just reading that there are "so many" of these that 120 per year are referred for removal proceedings:

The government has justified the new regulation in the name of curbing “marriage fraud” or “marriage of convenience” without offering evidence of the prevalence of these problems. According to the Canadian Border Services Agency, about 120 cases a year are referred to removal proceedings on suspected misrepresentation relating to spousal sponsorship. Even if all 120 cases are found to involve marriage fraud, which is highly unlikely, it still does not justify amending the law and putting the lives of thousands of women at risk.
Better that 100 innocent people suffer than one guilty go free.

CPP-O CoPR delivery has begun in the US now too (taking a week to make it through Canada Post and USPS).

For those wondering what to look for in the mail, it's a ~ 7.5x10.5 inch manila envelope (so, almost letter size but not quite) that has the Case Processing Pilot-Ottawa return address stamped on with red ink and the delivery address on a big white label placed on the envelope in 'landscape' format.

Got excited today when I saw a letter from CIC in the mailbox. Opened it up and it was my Visitors Record. I was just thinking about withdrawing that application too since I'm expecting COPR any day now.

Curious about border crossings once COPR is received. Can I cross back and forth without landing? I will be traveling for work between the holidays and prefer to land on 1/1/2013. I have a storage unit in the US close to the border I'd like to access before then.

You can choose to land whenever you are ready up to the expiration of your COPR.
