Hey guys,

We're not applying through Caracas (but through Berlin), but my husband is from Venezuela (Maracaibo). However, we had all the documents asked except for his Police Clearance for Venezuela, since CIC says they have to order it. Does anyone know how long this takes?

One of our fears is that this may be a reason for delay in the process.

I am in the same situation. I am waiting for the Caracas office to send the Police Clearance. It seems like a black hole at the moment since I can not control and/or make anything to get that paperwork done.

Have you received any update on this? Are you pursuing any strategies? Like going to the Caracas Consulate to request an update?

I am also applying outside Venezuela

Regards

First I called the consulate in Toronto and they told me it would take a minimum of 6 months and told me I should find another way to do it.

Pardon my language but... F*CK. 6 months? That is insane. I'm going to get right on this. Thanks for the info and link.

We hadn't really acted on this since we remembered obtaining a similar document to emigrate to The Netherlands and it was done within one day... but this... wow... speechless (not in a good way).

I've been reading up, and am slightly confused. Many sites claim that it takes 08 working days and can be issued by signing a "poder" (authorization) for someone to do it for you... however, I know my country (lived most of my life there) and I know how things can vary from what is said.

Have contacted my parents (lawyers who know lawyers) to see if anyone has any idea on this. Thanks bubba for waking me up from the inertia I was in thinking something dealing with Venezuelan institutions could be simple, easy and fast.

Will get back to you guys if I hear anything.

Originally, CIC stated your cedula number was enough, and didn't have to get an additional police clearance, but then one day all of a sudden I was asked for one within 30 or 60 days, I can't remember. The link I sent you is run by gestores and lawyers who do this for a living, they got tons of my stuff done before I left Venezuela. They are super fast and I couldn't have done it without them. They are not cheap but they FedEx everything back to you to make it as painless as possible. If you can have a relative pay in Bolivares it will be better, as you well know :D

Yes, thank you. This is why this forum is great, you learn through other's stories.

Quick question, what VO did you go through?

What's VO? I just started on this forum yesterday, so I'm not up to speed on the abbreviations.

I assume it's Visa Office, if so, Buffalo.
Thanks, sorry. You know how it is, hang around long enough in a neighborhood and you adopt the lingo ;)

It's like alphabet soup on these forums. COPR, RRP, RPR, XYZ :D
Eventually it does become useful, though I will grant you that it is tough to keep up at first. But anyway... now I have something to keep me worried. Had missed this feeling since Friday when we got sponsorship approval.

I imagine you applied through Buffalo but lived some time in Venezuela?

I'm pretty much done with the process. Should have PR in a month or so, so I'm getting by with the bare minimum. I'm American/Venezuelan so had the joy of getting a Venezuelan police clearance and one for every state I'd ever lived in. I got fingerprinted so many times all the cops at my local station know me.

I have question is it ok if the Police Clearance abroad doesn't have thumb mark because I'm not personally the one who'll get it just a friend who's staying in that country. Is that ok ? In your case you asked someone to do it for you what did you do for the thumb mark section on your Police Clearance ?
