1) You are right if you plan to land in Canada very soon after getting the visa. Sending a fresh passport for visa stamping will give you more flexibility in your travel plans in case of unforeseen delays. With a fresh passport you can travel right upto your visa expiry while your current passport will be good for travel only upto Sep 2014.Mosby said:Now I have several questions. Be patient with me please... :-[
1. You need to have entered Canada already before the COPR expires, right? So even if for example they base it on the passport which is near expiry, as long as you intend to land in Canada before that date, would it matter?
2. Is it possible to attach the new passports to the old passport (with the COPR) if for example we decide to renew it after getting the visas? Will there be any problem upon entry to Canada as the visas are stamped on the old passports and not on the new ones?
The reason why we are undecided with the passport renewal is because it takes so long to renew the passports here and we are worried that if we renew it and the PPR comes, we might not be able to hand our passports asap. Another reason is that we plan to go to the Philippines first before landing in Canada which is when we plan to renew our passports. It is faster, as far as we know, unlike here where you have to wait for months...
Anyways, when do you plan to land in Canada?
Seniors, any thoughts on our dilemma?
2) As Roayns said, you can attach new passport to the old one (with COPR) but prior to travel, you need to send the new passports to ADVO and pay fees to amend the COPR.
3) Regardless of whether you renew or don’t renew your passports, your visa validity will be upto Feb 2015 (lower of your medical test date/passport expiry date). Assuming that you get the PPR in the next few weeks, you should be planning to travel to Canada by Sep 2014 as many airlines/countries do not allow travel with passport valid for less than 6 months. If you are not plannning to travel by Sep 2014, you should apply for new PP and get the COPR amended.
4) If your PPR comes while your passport is being renewed, you can request ADVO to give you some more time for PP submission.
