@ Pair, @ Holygun: The news is only talking about those in Foreign service. Foreign service is different from local service. They have different unions. It will affect Canadian Embassies in other countries but not CPP-Ottawa.
Except if those in Canada then decide to join the strike...which i know they won't. From my understanding of Foreign service, the officials gets money for living outside of their country (their comfort zone). They get paid based on the country they reside in. Moreso, they are representing the govt in other countries. Their families are taken care of, they get free accommodation (govt pays for them), their children go to school for free (govt pays for them), they get cooks, maids and drivers. Imagine, someone do your laundries for you, cooks for you & drive you around. You don't pay for house rents or mortgages. So, most of them tend to keep their monies without being spent. I guess that's why the Govt is not paying them more than those inside. These services are not enjoyed by the officials working in Canada. So I doubt if they will stick their heads in it. If CIC in Canada joins, then CRA, StatCAN, Health Can, etc too will join. This is just my thoughts on the issue. I may be wrong about it.
