Don't have exact dates, but I've applied twice. Both times they were quite quick. Website suggested 13 weeks, it took more like 5 the first time. Second time was a little longer. I made an error on credit card form, and that delayed it a little. Still was no more than 7 weeks.

Finally!

My Fingerprints were rec'd 8/13 by the FBI and I rec'd the report yesterday 10/24.

my cc was charged yesterday. sent fingerprints to them on sept 20.

What is the number you call to find out the status of prints?

@ dream23 Sounds like progress to me. I sent a money order. Gotta look for the receipt and check online or in store to see if it was cashed.

So I just want to verify. I'm a canadian citizen sponsoring a american spouse.

I can go ahead and send the rest of the package and send this later? This will be holding me pretty far back if it's going to take 3-4 months to process. Didn't realize until now.

Also, once I receive it, do I just mail it to the same address? How will they cross-reference my application with the background check?

When getting the actual fingerprints, do the fingerprint cards need to be filled out? They need to be mailed to the FBI, I assume at that time it should be filled out, not during the time of fingerprinting.

You can fill out the fingerprint card before or after. Make sure you walk with a valid I.D. when you go to take your fingerprints at an agency or even the local police station (whatever you decide).

You can send in the application 1st without the fbi clearance (as this takes a while to obtain. You can attach a note stating that you've applied for the clearance and when you receive it, you'll send it in. Once sponsorship is approved, your file will be forwarded to the VO for processing. You will then receive a file # from the VO. When you obtain the fbi clearance, you can then submit it. On a cover letter, include your file # and reference the additional document being submitted.

Sorry one last question before I send out the FBI request.

On the application/Cover letter the last field is Return Mail Options and it lists the Fedex Account # and prepaid return evelope enclosed/first class mail.

I assume I don't have to fill this out right? They'll just send me the FBI check regular mail?

they sent me by regular mail, I also skipped that

FBI charged our credit card yesterday!!!! anyone know how long after they charge the card til we get the clearance in the mail?? :D:D so happy!

for me, it took about 6 weeks

Did fingerprints at my local police station after the slightly disgruntled employee (surprise!) told me that the FBI would "definitely reject my prints" because I printed the card myself on regular 20lb paper and not cardstock and that it wasn't "official." After some insistence on my behalf I got them done and sent out, and got my statement of no record back almost exactly 2 months later.

I was actually getting worried about not receiving it at that point and called the FBI to inquire, and the gentleman told me that it looked like my letter would be sent out the following week. Ironically enough it came in the mail that same day!

they officially say that you can print card yourself.

6. Can I use the fingerprint card I download from this site?

Yes. The FBI will accept the downloaded paper fingerprint card only for the purpose of requesting an FBI Identification Record.
