Hi, this is an issue that I have seen come up twice in the past week or so that people have asked about, and honestly, I don't know why people are saying that NOT paying both fees will delay the application by two months? Is there anyone on this forum whom this has actually happened to? Or are we just surmising? I would think that, if a person has only paid $550 and then later sent the second fee, and their application is delayed by 2 months, it is probably due to some other problem with their application, OR because of their method of payment. Some methods of payment are naturally quicker than others.
Paying by credit card is instantaneous and electronic, so I don't believe they would have to go "digging" for anything, like if you mailed them a bank order. If they contact you to ask for the fee, and you pay it that day with the credit card and fax the receipt, they have no excuse for holding up anyone's application for 2 months.
Furthermore, do people actually realize that, by paying both fees up front, you are potentially LOANING the Canadian government that money, free of interest?? Because they could decide to turn down your application for sponsorship, and then you have to wait for them to decide to refund your money. And judging by the LONG wait times for processing stage 1 (3 months) you would be out of pocket the second fee for all that time.
I sent in my application March 21, with one fee of $550. I am planning to pay the second fee by credit card by the end of this month. When I make the payment, I will fax the receipt to them AND email it AND send the original in the mail. So they will have no excuse to say "Where is it?" Right now they are still working on January applications, so they will not be processing mine until June at least. So both my fees will be in before they process me. Sending it in one month after the rest of the application will not make a difference; it will all be there when it comes to my turn.
