there is no form to correct email, btw - do u even know if it's an incorrect email issue? or just assuming. I knew it was wrong as I saw it in my GCMS notes

Hi there,
I have applied to sponsor my parents under family class, and was wondering if I could get an update on how the Ankara office has been doing so far on processing the parents sponsorship since the files were transferred from Damascus to their visa office in Ankara.
- Filed the application in Mississauga office in Nov. 2008;
- CIC approved the sponsor eligibility requirements on 24-May-2012 and indicated the file is transferred to Ankara office.
I haven't heard anything back since. what's the processing queue for the applications they revived from Damascus? (their website shows a 35 months processing wait time). Any idea when I can expect to hear back from them?

I was told the same but they said they would only ask meds if they need more info, but this does involve calling the DMP back home - thanx

You're welcome. One more thing, we did not pay the dmp to sign that mr for pr, but we paid the courier fee for the mr to be sent to the local visa office.

moraine, thank you for the precious information on the flagpoling.
Me too, I was told at phone by a CIC clerk that flagpoling is the easiest solution, given that we live quite close to the border (80-90 min drive).

I plan to do it next week, as soon as my mother receives her PP + the PR visa.
FedEx finally has picked up her passport from LVO (seems that the Control # worked...) and now I'm tracking it on their site.

I would have a question to ask you: Did you first stop at Canadian Immigration office (meaning that you left the car and stepped inside the office)?
Or you went directly to the border, just explaining - while sitting in your car - to Canadian Customs officer and then to US Customs officer what you plan to do?

You're welcome.

What we did was we drove through the USA border. We gave our passports and told the American officer that we are "flag-poling" for pr resident. My husband and I accompanied my parents. It is best to accompany them all the way. The officers will encourage you to assist your parents/family. Also, the Canadian officers wouldn't mind if you stay with your parents. The whole procedure was quick and simple, but the waiting at both borders aren't that quick, as we all know. I know you guys will do great!

Hi everyone,

As some of you know we recently got our COPR and will at last be able to make our permanent home in Canada with our family.
During the 4 and a half years of waiting we have been very lucky to spend up to 6 months each year living there so have become very familiar with what to expect in our new life .
As English speakers we speak the same language as our adopted country so it would be easy to think that there are no differences between living in the UK and living in Canada (in our case British Columbia).
Not so ,there are many differences which are not evident at first and for many people are never a problem but it would be foolish to assume that, even as an English speaker, there are no adjustments to be made. For instance the sense of humour is different and there are many English expressions which are not familiar to Canadians. There is also a certain amount of teasing with some thinking it funny to mock a British accent or pronunciation of certain words. There are cultural differences which are not immediately evident but which over time you adjust to . Those differences are more marked for non English (or French) speakers.
For many parents and grandparents immigrating and not having spent time in Canada the need to adjust needs to be considered . It is not so difficult for younger immigrants because it is easier to adapt to change when you are younger. What I am trying to say, therefore, is that with applications now being approved and immigration imminent for many older parents ,if they have not spent lengthy periods in the new country it needs to be recognised that it is not always as easy an adjustment as just being back with family.
Those of you who are sponsoring parents should try to remember what a big deal it actually is to up sticks and move countries as an older person and not assume that all will be plain sailing.
We are confident that we can settle because of our fortunate situation spending time there over an extended period but it is a big move and not one to be taken lightly later in life. Leaving your home country is never without challenges and the older you are the greater those challenges are.

I write this to hopefully prepare some of you for what may or may not be a challenging situation in helping your parents to adjust to their new lives. I am sure all sponsors and sponsored parents are excited by the prospect of being reunited but there are bound to be issues for some of homesickness and difficulty settling to a very new life in a new country.

I have included a link written by someone who gives advice on things you can do to help settlement. I hope some of you find it helpful and don't just think I am interfering and lecturing.

My parents PR application decision has been made. Just now I checked e-cas and it is decision made. E-cas reads as follows:

"We received your application for permanent residence on January 2, 2008.

We started processing your application on November 16, 2012.

Medical results have been received.

A decision has been made on your application. The office will contact you concerning this decision."
