The $5 charge is mandatory for any info request (ATIP request) regarding your own file or your parents files. There is a cost associated with that (searching time, paper & ink). It includes the cost of 25 pages. If the info you requested more than 25 pages, you will have to pay on top of that. CIC visa officers who prepare your request info, will keep track of the searching time in the system on the month report.

Thanks :)

my file was always more than 25 pages (up to 150 pages) - and i was never asked to pay any additional fees.

Requests under Privacy Act are free - so if you are asking for info about yourself it can be free:

A request for personal information held by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) should be made to CIC under the Privacy Act. There are no fees involved with the processing of a request under the Privacy Act.

Yes, only my father (I lost my mother during the process). He is actually in Canada, since we lost my mother, my father stay almost all time here.
Hopping get visa soon. I hope that you will have news soon, we are around same timeline.

Sorry to hear about your mother. I really wish that your father gets Visa soon. Seems like Ottawa is processing first the medicals which were done within Canada as I know of other members from other forum as well whose medicals were processed and had the timeline around mine. I am just curious as I did not get the re-medical request either as of yet and was wondering whether by any chance they have my email address incorrect in their system. I am waiting for CAIPIS notes.

Question to those who received GCMS notes (with cases in Ottawa or LVO, especially ottawa and those who received medical request alreayd): do you see anything in those notes that would indicate that background check (or security check - whatever it is called) started already for your parents?

Just trying to understand Ottawa process. I think in the past (before recent changes and this pilot), they used to do medicals at the end of the process (or so I thought). Now it seems they ask for medical first and then background check maybe?

Hello All,

It seems like CIC has stopped processing applications of the sponsors who submitted their additional docs
in 2nd batch. My application was received by CIC-M on May 14 but there is no news yet.

Anyone from 2nd batch has any update?

Bye,

based on my notes - security and criminality in CPP-O start AFTER medicals are passed... they havent' started yet for my case...

thanks Shuga!

I guess they decided to shift the cost to the 'consumer' so to speak :-) I.e. filter the applicants based on medicals first and then spend effort on background check etc...

In my case Security check was started before they asked for medicals.
In notes it shows that Criminality passed for my mom and in progress for my dad. Notes also show that they need fingerprinting for my dad for which we already received a request.
File shows RFV. In front of our home country police clearance notes show NRT.

so there is no pattern?
what is RFV and NRT?

RFV=Ready for Visa
NRT= No Reportable Trace- means passed
it looks all good. But you never know. Also please do not quote me on these meanings as I am not sure how accurate these are as I got them from general internet search.
