Update on my situation. My parents third extension application(we had asked for 2 extra years) got approved. My dad’s till 2026 and my moms till December 2024(when her biometrics expire). I had submitted a webform with a receipt of payment for biometrics explaining we had realized mom needs to do biometrics to get the full 2 year stay. But looks like the application was already finalized by the time they got the webform. Very strange point to note that they approved it within record time, we applied on October 10 2024 and decision came in on Nov 1 2024. Maybe because their PR application is in progress?

My questions are below:

1) I will submit another extension application for my mom asking for the full two years. Previously my dad was the principle applicant. Should I make my mom the principle applicant now?

2) I recall there being a question “will your spouse acompany you to Canada? Should I say yes or no because even though my dad is accompanying her his visitor record is already approved.

3) I will write a letter of explanation from my moms side explaining why she is applying again to get the full 2 years and how due to biometrics expiry she only got a shorter period of time. Should I also include the previous letters of support from me and the original submission letter from my dad? Or make a brand new submission letter from my mom and support letter from myself?

4) can I attach the same receipt of biometrics payment as I put in the webform because a biometrics instruction letter was never issued?

5) should I wait for the actual visitor record to be received in the mail even though they have provided the approval letters in the gc key account?

Dependent’s study permit expires mid month in November and PA lands end of November. Do we need to apply for visitor record asap or is student dependent going to have implied status until they can land?

What do you mean? If PA lands as a PR in Nov, why would dependent needs a study permit? Dependent would have PPR or do virtual landing after PA landed.

There is NO implied status if ones study permit expires. Dependent needs to extend his/her stay as visitor. Otherwise, will be out of status.
While waiting for decision to extend his/her stay as a visitor, dependent would have maintain status as visitor.

Why can't PA land sooner to avoid issue of dependent falling out of status?

For supervisa, I believe, the person in Canada has to provide a guarentee to paying all bills plus has to maintain a certain amount of insurnace coverage.

I personally used Cigna insurance. Initially it was a problem because you have to pay the Island health upfront and then only claim back the money. Then I went to VIHA office and talked to them and got them to agree to bill Cigna directly.
There is no requirement for children to support their parents financially while on a supervisa. Meeting LICO is a requirement and that attempts to determine if you will have the financial ability to care for seniors while visiting Canada. LICO is incredibly low if you factor in COL and having to purchase Supervisa insurance. The fact that you have had so much contact with VHA just underlines how much pressure visitors put on a healthcare system with no extra capacity. Depending on what health issues have occurred and the cost of treatment it may not be possible to secure supervisa insurance for next year and PGP medical could be an issue.

Actually, the problem is more of an accounting rather than REAL resource usage.

VIHA, as it happens, does its billing in a totally stupid manner. It only allows billing of ER charges in form of cash and then you need to make a claim after the fact. However if one is admitted, they will try and bill the insurer. However to work this entire thing, you have to visit them actully. If Canda was a bit more clever, full cashless billing is not that hard.

But then if Canada was clever enough, it would have also allowed shipping of PR cards by courier, paid for by applicant. Apprently, "Lets all suffer" is a Canadian Value -- heck one minister even said that.

AFAIK, during the SuperVisa insurace, the insrurer NEVER asks about your insruance history. They only ask about your medical status. This is because SuperVisa insurance is NOT really a medical insurance, it is an emergency care insurance. Meaning, if you have an emergency, they will pay money till you are in a condition to travel and nothing beyond. This is why they are able to offer you insurance.

I DO however keep a US based "global" insurance for my parents, all the times, even when they are in India. It costs money, but they can live in canada without worrying about lack of coverage.

Hope it helps to understand what the entire situation is all about.

I submitted on June 20 and have not received any update/notification from IRCC. Waiting patiently though, i had raised a webform to request for a status and they replied back saying that once the officer starts reviewing the application then i can expect some notification but until then just wait.
Thanks for the info, hopefully they will pick up the file for processing soon. ;-)

This is actually good information for those who can obtain US health insurance for their visiting parents.
There *may* be another option. Its called group insurnace.

https://www.allianzcare.com/en/business/insurance-products-and-services/regional-healthcare/canada.html#

Though people SHOULD get a complete legal advice on it from an insurance lawyer and a company law lawyer.

One can possibly form a "union" or a "company" whose only job is to hold insurance policy. A kind of holding company. Group insurance is offered to a group of individuals insured. Typically company employees and directors. So lets say 10 families want to insure their parents, they form a company which hold the group policy, they make their parents and grand parents as shareholding directors VISITING Canada on purely PERSONAL visit, not business visit. I know unions offer insurance as benefits in this manner and so do companies. Both during business time and personal time.

That being said, it should be ensured that even though parents and grandparents are company owners and directors their visit in Canada is purely *personal* with no intention what so ever of working.

Hi, thanks for this email.

For point # 3 - Proactively applying for Police Clearance - can you or anyone who has opted for this provide more details? For example, my parents are in India now. Do they just show up at the local police station with their IDs (passport, aadhaar, etc.) and ask for the PCC?

Greetings to everyone on this forum!

Congratulations to you and your family members for getting chosen in this round of the PGP lottery. I know the feeling as my family got picked after waiting 7 years in Oct 2023. I am just a few steps ahead of you folks and applied in the 2023 intake. While the wait was so long we were lucky that the application moved through quickly and in 7 months my parents got their PR. So I wanted to share some tips based on what I’ve learnt from my experience at the time when the application was processed.

Please know that I am not giving you any suggestions on how to fill out the forms, my post will be useful to you after you’ve submitted the application and waiting for the next steps:
  1. Pack in a lot of patience, while you may think the worst is behind you because you’ve won the lottery and that is true in a way, IRCC will test your patience from time-to-time by asking for documents that may not seem of importance to you. My inference was that they were doing this for audit reasons in many cases, to prove they’ve done their due diligence. Therefore do not fret or question, just give them what they’re asking for. If you do not have something write a letter of explanation. IRCC is considerate and will take your explanation into account
  2. IMPRTANT: If at the time of submitting the application your parent’s passport is valid for less than 12 months, IRCC may ask for renewed passports. In our batch of applicants almost none heard before 3 months after they initially applied, so make use of that time to have the passports renewed. Thus you can immediately present them when asked for.
  3. You can also proactively apply for Police clearance documents since in many countries it takes time, especially if your folks are in Canada and you were applying through your country’s international consulate in Canada.
  4. And you DO NOT Need to obtain a criminal record check from Canada unless explicitly asked for no matter how much time your parents have spent in Canada. This was a major point of confusion among the applicants in our lot.
  5. If your parents had any form of visa that required medical exams that were done within past 5 years then IRCC may consider that and may not ask for another medical exam for the PR. In that situation do not rush to get a medical exam in advance.
  6. For applicants of Indian nationality IRCC will ask for these additional documents, so please start collecting them after submitting initial application
    1. Aadhar card – for sponsor and applicants
    2. Voters ID – for sponsor and applicants
    3. Rationing card
    4. PAN card – for sponsor and applicants
    5. Grade 5 to 10 marksheet, matriculation certificate – for sponsor
    6. Surrendered/cancelled Indian passport – for sponsor
    7. OCI card – for sponsor
You may not be asked for all of them depending on your case. If you don’t have everything, give them whatever you have and for the missing ones write a letter of explanation. They will suggest alternatives as required. Like I said earlier we found that IRCC is considerate especially when you demonstrate that you’re doing your best in helping them get as much information they need to process your file.
  1. Also in our batch some folks were asked to submit a hand signed copy of the family information form, if that happens to you then you can download the application bundle that you submitted via the portal. From that you can separate the family information form – print, hand sign, scan and send it. There may be other ways which you can check with IRCC call center for guidance 1-888-242-2100.
  2. As soon as you hear from IRCC for the first time they’ll give you an application number or an interim application number (it will appear on top of a bar code in the PDF Letter). Try to link that to the GCKey by going online https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/account.html. If you have trouble doing it yourself call 1-888-242-2100 and the call center will guide you. Once you link your application you can track your application status online. But most importantly you can submit documents by uploading them to the portal which attaches them directly to your file. This is way quicker than replying to their emails and waiting for them to attach documents to your files. Its just a small way of expediting your application processing times.

I hope that you find this information useful and I wish you all the very best. May your applications zip through and may you all have your loving parents with you tout suite
