Hi,

I called in today regarding my application received on Oct 15th. I got the temporary file number from an agent last week. This morning the agent after verifying the information said that it has yet to be opened. He noticed something on the file and asked if my Wife is in Canada or outside. I told him outside and he asked why did I submit an inland application, when I know it was an outland application that was submitted. After a while he said it seems like it is an inland application and will send a message to the Mississauga office to have it moved to Outland. This got me worried so I called back a couple hours later and spoke to a different agent. He said it was in queue to be processed but thats it. When I asked to verify if it was Inland or Outland he put me on hold for 20 minutes and came back to say that he is unable to verify and that I should wait for the next online update.

I'm confused now, what do I do? I have the temporary file number (XF and then 9 digits), but I can't check the status online. Any and all advice/help is appreciated. Thanks!
I don't think there is anyway for us to use this temporary file number to check the status online. One thing that struck me as odd was that the lady mentioned they have my "old address" on file and she needs my new address in Canada. I had to explain we don't live in Canada etc. I also found it strange when I was listening to all the information the automated lady gave me before I could speak to a live person, it said the average timeline for applications was 24 months, I also had a 6yr old chatting away, so I'm hoping I heard that wrong....

After a file has been sent off to a VO, do you receive another AOR from the VO?

I hear it depends on the visa officer working on your case. Sometimes you hear nothing until a decision is made, or when they require additional documents/info etc.

I am thinking it was referring to the inland application. I wouldn't worry. I got a temp application number as well before receiving an official AOR. The temp number became my permanent application number. You shall hear soon :).

There's nothing magical about 58 days, unfortunately, so don't mark your calendar. They say it was 58 days on December 10, and it isn't December 10 anymore. It's been getting longer with every update. Some of us are at 60 days or more and haven't heard anything. There isn't much point in my calling about it, though, until I start seeing people who filed after me making more progress than my file has.

Exactly. The call centre agents keep saying it doesn't matter that mine was Oct 15 and the current 6 day old update says 14th. Only if the time listed on the site has passed can they really do anything about it when you call.

I would call again next week and ask if your application is being processed as outland or inland. If that agent sent an email to Mississauga, the other agents will be able to see it.

My application was mistakenly placed in inland queue. I found out when I got an inland AOR about 3 weeks after my application was submitted. As soon as I found that out, I called CIC and an agent sent an email to Mississauga inquiring the mistake. After that, I called CIC once a week for 3 more times. During the first two times, I was told that there hadn't been any update on the email the first agent sent. Only on the third time was I told that my application had been put back in outland queue.

So I was worried sick for about 3 weeks but it seems like CIC is pretty good at fixing that mistake. My SA came in on day 52. I know one other person in September 2014. She had the same issue and she got her SA around day 60.

Your application probably is in the right queue. The agent might just be confused. Because if it's in Inland pile, you would have got an Inland AOR I think. But even if it was placed mistakenly in an Inland pile, it will not take forever for CIC to fix it (according to my case and the other person's in September)

I would just call once a week until it's fixed.

Well it's good to hear that my case isn't an anomaly and that it will be fixed, but also sad to hear that it is common...

Thanks for your update. That is a bit relieving. I will check back with them as you said.

Thanks!

Very soon!
Hi Everyone,

My husband called the CIC call centre again yesterday to ask about SA (we submitted on 10/10/2014)
He was told that they "officially received" the file only on 17/10/2014 (One whole week after UPS confirmed it was delivered on 10/10) :-X
And so it will only be processed with the Oct 17th batch of files. :-[
But they did acknowledge that the file was received. (Phew!)
Furthermore, he was told to call "after two weeks" when our file will be in process. (that seems to be their standard response as he's already been told that thrice)
I have given up hope of getting SA before the year ends and until well into january as all the VOs will take their holidays around this time. :'(

Sorry for being the bringer of grim news! :(

I hope this doesn't hold true for many of you, at least some of us should get SAs in timeframe they mentioned..
My best wishes are with you all!

Happy holidays people! Be strong!

Actually, I was told that it depends on the officer examining the application. I provided my email and received an email requesting the new form back in September, ecas now says they made a decision on my SA and a letter was mailed the end of November but I still havent received it. Some members say it takes approximately 3 weeks for the letter to arrive and CIC told me that if I dont receive it in 4 weeks they can request for a new one to be sent out. CIC can't see the status of SA, they just see the same as me, decision made (on the sponsorship approval section) and application and medicals received under my husband
Hi Violet11, I think you can rest assured that you've received SA! My status says the same thing, I've received my SA letter through email (sounds like you're only getting it through the post though?) and there is an Application Received marked for my partner, the PA. They have received his medicals and his application, just like yours. Now we wait for request for more docs or the magical "In Process" to show up on our file!
