If you or your spouse do not have a birth certificate for your Non-Express Entry PR application, you can submit alternative documents to prove your date and place of birth. Here iswhat to do:

1. Alternative Documents You Can Submit
If the birth certificate is unavailable, IRCC accepts the following alternatives:
School records (e.g., secondary or higher education certificates showing date of birth)
Passport bio-data page (showing full name and date of birth)
Government-issued identification (national ID, voter card, or other official records with date of birth)
Baptismal certificate (if applicable)
Family records or household registry (if available)
Affidavit from a parent, relative, or someone who can confirm your birth details. This should explain:
Why the birth certificate is unavailable
Details of your birth (date, place, parents’ names)
2. Get an Affidavit (If Needed)
Prepare an affidavit (a sworn statement) from a close family member who can confirm the birth details.
The affidavit should be notarized and include:
Full name of the deponent (person giving the affidavit)
Your full name and date/place of birth

Reason why the birth certificate cannot be provided

Signature and official seal of a notary public

3. Letter of Explanation (LoE)
Write a Letter of Explanation to IRCC outlining:
That the birth certificate is unavailable
What alternative documents you are providing
Any steps you have taken to obtain the birth certificate (if applicable

4. If You Recently Obtained the Birth Certificate
If you manage to get the birth certificate after submitting your application, you can upload it via the webform along with a cover letter referencing your UCI and application number.
thank you @Miss bee . CIC returned my application because I didn't provide one of the above for birth certificate. it seems other people where able to have their returned application reconsidered by CIC, Do you know the process? who to call or email?

It's never advisable to put reconsideration request if your application has been returned incomplete . Better to submit new application asap .

Hi @Miss bee What is the difference between IMM0008 and IMM5406? I have a Canadian child and did not include her name on the IMM0008 as she’s a citizen and she is not being applied as my dependent for PR. I only included my spouse and other daughter who are not citizens. However, in IMM5406, I have included both our children regardless if they are citizens or not.

Did I do the right thing? Should I have included my citizen child as non-accompanying? I know I asked this before and citizens should not be included in the application as they are already citizens. I’m waiting for AOR and wondering if I should webform a letter of explanation about not including my other child in IMM008. I’m panicking because someone posted in another group that the application was rejected because the applicant did not include children in IMM5406. I’m worried they might reject mine because I did not put my other child in IMM008. Sorry to bother you again with this question.
In the same situation! Hopefully we’ll get an answer

No need to panic you did the right thing by not including your Canadian citizen child on IMM0008. Here's s a breakdown to clarify things:

1. IMM0008 (Generic Application Form for Canada Who to include: Only non-Canadian family members who are applying for permanent residence (spouse, common-law partner, and dependent children).
Exclusion: Canadian citizens and permanent residents are not listed here because they do not need to be sponsored or included as dependents.
You were correct to only include your spouse and non-citizen child on IMM0008. Your Canadian citizen child does not go on this form as a non-accompanying dependent.

2. IMM5406 (Additional Family Information Form)
Who to include: All immediate family members (spouse, children, parents, siblings) regardless of their citizenship or immigration status.
You did the right thing by including both children on this form, even though one is a Canadian citizen.

Why was someone else's application rejected?

Their rejection was likely due to not listing all family members on IMM5406, which is required. Since you included both children on IMM5406, this does not apply to you.

Should you send a Webform to explain?
In your case, you do not need to send a Webform because you followed IRCC guidelines correctly:
You left your Canadian citizen child off IMM0008 (correct).

You included all family members (including your Canadian child) on IMM5406 (correct).

IRCC understands that Canadian citizens are excluded from IMM0008 and won't penalize you for following the rules.

Yes you need atleast 2 years valid passport otherwise they might issue you new work permit according to your old passport.
My current work permit is already until end of current passport so I think I need new passport. Can I apply and just wait for them to ask me for my passport and then extend ?

I just want to play safe as my non express entry PR application is going on and haven’t received AOR yet and my work permit expires in May 2026 so just want to be safe while I have the chance

Hello @Miss bee

hope you are doing well.

I submitted two webforms with the same information. First webforms was with UCI and second with UCI and TFN. I got Acknowledgement of TFN webform first before I got for the one I sent with only UCI. Now I am worried that they attached the information twice - I had added IMM5669 and explanation letter and address list correction.

what should I do or is it okay ?

Hi @Miss bee I am still waiting for news from IRCC. When I check the tracker, it shows eligibility has not started. The background check is in progress but my GIC account shows like this:

Review of eligibility
  • We are reviewing whether you meet the eligibility requirements.
Background check
  • Not applicable.
What do you think?
Thank you

On your IRCC account for permanent residency => Check full application status => then on top of Application information it says "view submitted application or upload documents" you should be able to upload there.
if you don't see anything there I would recommend calling IRCC or send the document as webform.
Thank you very much for a step-by-step instruction. I don’t see any requests there, I’ll send it as a web form. Do you know if should it be a pdf form, right? If so, Should I sign a pdf form by hand?
