I'm gonna try to answer your questions, but I'm nowhere near done with my application/sponsorship. Just submitted on June 1st, AOR on June 22nd. I'll answer based on what I've read from the two Manila threads.

1. Usual processing time for a complete package (upfront meds, complete forms, Appendix B photos included, advisory on marriages AND marriage certificate provided) seems to be around 8 to 10 months. The shortest I've seen was 6 months. It was a 2014 applicant who got their visa in 2015. What's your status on ECAS, if you don't mind?

2. I want to say 6 months. Again, sometimes it's shorter, sometimes longer. If you're 4 months into your application and you want to know what's going on, I would suggest ordering GCMS notes.

3. Some people rely on ECAS (status would change to "Decision Made"). Some people get a passport request, usually by email, I believe (if they ask for the passport, it means that they're ready for visa stamping).

Basically, CIC isn't always consistent. If you gave them your email address, they'll probably send you sll communication electronically. However, they may also contact you by email for the first few correspondences and then by post for the last, or vice versa, or email-post-email-etc. Processing times vary as well. It all depends on the visa officer/s working on your case.
Thank you so much for the reply @Mrs. Mekeni

When you say ECAS do you mean the online status updates? I'll give you the 3 lines I have regarding my sponshorship.

1. We received your application to sponsor (wife's name) on March 8, 2016.
2. We sent you correspondence acknowledging receipt of your application(s) on April 2, 2016.
3. We started processing your application on April 1, 2016.

Then this is my wife status and the 3 lines they have for her:

1. We received (wifes name) application for permanent residence on March 8, 2016.
2. We started processing (wifes name) application on April 20, 2016.
3. Medical results have been received.

So as you can see her application arrived in Manila 19 days after mine started to be processed but I never got a sponsorship approval. What do you think? how does someone get these GCMS notes?

Also when you mean passport request, does that mean my wife has to go to the immigration in Manila with her passport to get it stamped?

Thanks again!!!

Based on other members posts about PPR or passport request, your wife should be getting an email about it and with instructions on how/where to send it. Some who have already gone through PPR, it took about 2 weeks to a month (some about 2 months) before they got their passport back with CoPR or Confirmation of Permanent Residence.

hi Engineered_by_God, what's gcsm notes, and how would we obtain that?
I just recently found them:

Here's a video tutorial on how to get one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_E_dq_uLVo&feature=youtu.be
Here's a link for the gcms notes guidelines for interpretation: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1MvePamES8FhOJ9fO4Nh8sf0pHhjvOUBTPWTzYdYXwp4/edit?hl=en_US&pli=1

Hope you get your gcms notes soon. Praying for approval in your papers :)
GOD bless :)

That was quick! Yes it looks like your wife's application is in Manila now. If you have any missing documents, you should be getting correspondence regarding submission of those anytime now. If you did submit everything like you said (which you probably did...it's easy to be paranoid when you spend too much time on here lol), then what you're waiting for now is the passport request. Refer to Survivor27's reply above. Of course, no one can say for sure what the visa officer/s is/are doing with your app now, so if you want to get information, get GCMS notes. There's a thread on this board that explains how to read those notes, and somewhere in one of the Manila threads there are instructions on how to get those notes. I've never gotten them myself, but let me see if I can find and quote that link for you.

We sent you correspondence acknowledging receipt of your application(s) on April 2, 2016.=> Did you check your email for this means the Visa officer sent you email, unless you choose to have a hard copy of these by sending thru your address there in canada via snail mail.

Here's a link on how to order one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_E_dq_uLVo&feature=youtu.be

Did your wife received aor 2 as I can there is already a line: We started processing (wifes name) application on April 20, 2016.

For some visa offices, that line is equivalent to aor 2( acknowledgement receipt from visa office assigned to your wife)

God bless!

Here's a link of another thread that is quite helpful esp for those who are still putting together everything about their application (Just like me :) ) http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/how-i-organized-our-applcation-and-a-summary-of-all-helpful-tips-i-have-learned-t92449.0.html It was initiated by another Filipino 4 years ago. Many members here from different countries are very grateful to have found her post about organizing the application and other helpful tips.

I've been investigating din for the past few weeks since I did not have received any outgoing correspondence from manila visa office. So I've been checking people's aor 2 from manila visa offices, most of the people I checked on,AOR 2 were given and they asked for additional documents. (NBI,PCC,AOM etc etc)

What we did nang asawa ko is we got our gcsm notes and from there mas mainam yun kasi matrace mo kung ano ginagawa nila even kelan na update yun status including mga notes nang visa officer. Pati paper trace file andon din. Saka nakita ko din yun updates nila and since ni pull out na data is 06/28/2016 namin, latest update was June 6, 2016 on the notes, including the email we sent to update our new passport copy( they didnt ask it, we voluntarily gave them kasi alam namin expired na passport ) , we also saw the request email from our end for gcsm notes. As in yun gcsm notes parang literally diary sya nang Application paper mo.

Good luck sis. Dont worry, will ni God yan magkasama ang magasawa kaya I know and I have faith makasama naten mga asawa naten.

Keep the faith.
Thank you for your response.

You mean until now wala ka pang AOR2? I'm planning to order GCSM notes maybe early Sept.

If aor 2 means email from manila visa office, nope i havent received one but gcms notes says no outgoing correspondence.
I'm not sure if they need to send aor 2 via email because based from what I observed they send aor 2 for those who have missing documents. On my gcms notes it didnt say it needs update from us, maybe because we sent an update passport copy ahead of time thru email. I just followed eagles333 advice on this one. Some posters in this forum even informed me that when you received such recommended pass in elligibility which eagle33 qouted:
"Recommend Pass signifying that lead officer at the embassy is fully satisfied with the relationship then he/she assigns the file back to that first lead officer at CPC Mississauga to also review it for the last time before the status fully change from Recommend Pass to Passed."

Some even told me that when you see in ecas a 2nd line which states we started blablah, that means that visa office assigned to you started working on it.

Yes, AOR2 (Acknowledgment of Receipt) is from CEM or the visa office that will handle your application. They usually send it by email based on my personal research and ask for additional or updated documents. How long after SA did you order GCMS?

My ecas (applicant side) shows 3 lines - received, started processing, and medical.
