so all I have to do is download the form, send that and a picture of me to the dr and arrange an appointment? any idea how much this costs?
You need to find the list of approved doctors and book an appointment. state its for common law and you have Appendix C. Ask how many photos you require (mine was 4 but Ive read different for other locations), take photos and Appendix C along, pee in a pot, blood test, weight, eyesight, chest xray, check over etc. it cost me £300 here and £50 for extra tests (dont ask!). ive read its cheaper in Canada, like $200 ish

Medicals changed in December 2012 and there no need for the appendix C anymore, that's why it's not there.

So - use the OUTLAND pack and do not worry about the inland process, which forms are the same etc. Just don't even download it, it will avoid a lot of problems! download outland, print them all, and start! it's confusing at first, and you'll be overwhelmed, angry, confused, and a few other things... but it will eventually come together. we've been through this, and we survived, so will you! and before you know it, you'll be the one giving advices to people....

use the check list that is in the Part 3/ Western Europe guideline, that's the only one you need. If you start using different checklists from different types of applications, you'll get yourself confused! make a "self check" to things you need to ask for to different people, and that's about it...

For the medicals - here is the list from CIC website: http://www.cic.gc.ca/dmp-md/medical.aspx call around to ask for prices, and ask what they need. Normally between 3 to 4 pictures. book the appointment, and that's it. you don't need to bring anything anymore.... the doctor will give you a form to add to your application as a proof that you have done the medicals but you won't get the results, and you don't need them they go to London and wait for your file there!

Which forms to send? all that are in the application package, except for use of representative, and IMM5562 which is for Paris.

For the Aussie certificate: ask for it. If by the time you are ready to send your application package, it's not with you, then write a letter explaining that you have applied but didn't get it yet. Be polite and apologize, and say that you will send it as soon as you have it.If you have a proof ( online form etc, then add it there, so they can see that you are telling the truth) but make sure that you include a reference so they know that you are aware of it. I did that for my application in London (needed 7 police certificates, could only get 5 in the right timing, so wrote 2 letters and sent the two missing as they came along - was still process in 4 months in London).

For the final fee: pay it later. Either wait for London to ask for it ( they will ask when they are ready to issue the PR), OR ( and I would advise to do that), pay it in 3 months let's say. get the receipt, send it to Mississauga + to London VO as a proofs, together with your aussie certificate for example, and your file number ( never send anything extra without the file number), so when they are ready to issue the visa, they can see that the fees have been paid in full, and it won't delay your file.

it looks a lot, but if you put work and effort into it, and you are organised, it will come together pretty quickly. It's tedious to sit at a desk and just fill it out but there is no way out of it, so just start! :)

And come back for questions whenever needed!
Good luck,
Sweden

Sweden - This checklist only covers half the application though right?http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/3901e.pdf

We submitted a lot more than what is on the checklist - sponsors form C equivalent, passport etc.

to clarify for pictures: you need 8 "immigrations pictures" - very specific format, see in the part 3 of the package - for LONDON vo.

Then - you need a few pictures ( 3 or 4 depending on the office) for the doctor - call and ask. tell them you're doing outland.

A lot of people do outland while in Canada, no worries.

yes - it's a lot to take in at the same time, but once you start putting things in motion you'll get to cross things out of the list and it'll feel good! :) just a very extensive homework....and before you know, it'll be done and ready to send.

yes.... so the way it works in CIC mind is : the sponsored person completes the document ( and use this check list), then put everything in an envelop and sends it to the sponsor ( usually in canada, and the sponsored is outside, so they are not in the same place).

Then the sponsor completes his part, CHECKS the other part and signs wherever necessary, completes the "general check list" (included in the application form for the sponsor), here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5491E.pdf that includes both, and then sends it to Mississauga. that's why there are 2 different check lists. SO use yours to start filling out and getting organised, and then your sponsor should use the other one.

It's worth dividing the table into 2 sides : sponsor/sponsored so each has a clear view ( we had no dinner table for the whole time we filled out the forms) of what is needed and can work parallel to the others. Then you will have the "proofs of relationship" that can go into a third pile ( a third envelop later on if you want) as it's for both.

Gotcha, yeah we did it all together hence using both lists. But as you said, it is best to have a nice divided application between the sponsor and applicant.

sounds good!

thanks for clarifying. If I get on it, police certs aside, I coild technically have everything ready by the end of the month, and DEFINATELY before feb 15th when I have to apply for change of status.

sounds like a short time but hopefully plenty!

My only concern is the cost but I guess we can share that!

Well your sponsor will be legally responsible for all your expenses for the next 3 years once the PR is issued, no matter what.... so might as well sharing right away! :)
You'll be very busy every evening and week end for the next few weeks... and once it's done you'll remember what it feels like to have free time! :)

For reference, we did the meds in Toronto. I remember we paid the doctor for his part... and then another payment to the lab that did the x-rays. Total price for everything was around $150 or so. There's a ton of doctors to choose from here though so maybe the competition drives their prices down. Wouldn't be surprised to see doctors in some cities where they are the only option, charge much more!

there are quite a few in Vancouver to choose from, and some around too, here is the full list http://www.cic.gc.ca/dmp-md/medicalinfo.aspx?CountryID=2042&ProvID=15210&ProvinceName=British%20Columbia&CountryName=Canada

worth calling around and checking as it ranges usually between 150$ to 300$!!

thanks again guys! ill be in touch!

I have a visa in process that I applied for last october to extend my work permit which I did prior to having any knowledge about this stuff. so the lady wants to wait for that before we act. although I'm sure I won't get it she feels I will.

so hopefully that rejection comes soon so I can work on this stuff! I might start myself either way. no harm being on top of it!

wish me luck with everything!

Hi guys!

I have a quick question.

I know we don't have a fiance sponsorship option and only a common law option but is it ok to sponsor a fiance under commonlaw?

I read somewhere that you can't sponsor your partner if they are your fiance. or is this rubbish? and I can be sponsored and it is therefore ok to include proof of our upcoming wedding?

thankyou!

Fiance in Canada is not a legal thing - so you're either common-law, or married. If you're engaged, you can use that as proofs of your relationship, but it doesn't change anything (I got engaged between the moment I applied for my PR and the moment I received it, so I asked both CIC and the border officer if I had to declare anything : answer is no!).

So - you can be sponsored as long as you fit into one of the categories.
Good luck,
Sweden

Just to back-up what Sweden wrote... this is 100% pure rubbish!! The term "fiancee" has no legal definition to the CIC.

Though if you are applying as common-law, it would be good to show proof of engagement when your partner became your fiancee. In our case we showed a screenshot of our facebook pages announcing we were engaged, and a photo of her wearing the ring.
